A little while ago I bought a 2nd hand Schecter Diamond P for a film clip we made. I was planning to use it for the clip and then flip it. I decided to swap the gnarly ceramic stock P pickup for a Tonerider P-plus pickup I had as a spare. The result is incredible with the stock Schecter humbucker in the bridge. It slays the American Deluxe P for balance and fullness. In fact, we just finished recording with a top producer who knows his stuff inside out, and after some A/Bs with top of the line Fenders we went with the big Schecter.

Rudy do you think its the pre in the P deluxe that is the weak point ?
No, I don't think so. I've tried both the older humbucker version and the later split coil versions of the P deluxe, in both active and passive modes, and even one with an Aggie pre in it. Both just seem thin when blending both pickups. I think better matching of the set is ultimately what's required to stop the brutal scooping when blended.

Did you wind the P yourself,
Yep. I rewound a cheap artec alnico 5 bobbin. The pickup is great. It has transformed that old maton bass. In a lot of ways, it's my favourite instrument.
