Mesa Powerhouse Drivers

Post by bobbybdazzler » 07 Dec 2017, 15:17

I have a Mesa Powerhouse 4 x 12 Cab that has two stuffed drivers in it, I have contacted Mesa for replacements but as yet have not received a reply. They are Eminence 12" 16 ohm Neo drivers and the only info on the speaker is the part number of 4512110-2 a. There is not much info on the internet but if Mesa don't come back with an OEM part I may have to install different drivers. Should I just replace the stuffed two or should I replace all 4? What would be the best replacement?

Never ever have non-identical drivers if they are sharing the same cabinet space. I can go into the dry science of why if asked, but it's not a good idea.

Eeither get OEM replacements from Mesa/Eminence, or replace all 4. Getting 16 ohm drivers off the shelf can be difficult.

Contact Aaron Taylor at Taylored Wares in Carrum.

He's the Melbourne auth mesa repair tech.

I also had a 412 with stuffed wheels, he got me a pair from mesa much cheaper than the price I was quoted from the distributor, and in a much quicker timeframe.

I bet he could do the same with the speakers.

ProAudio in Canberra can also help ya out. Very surprised Mesa have not responded. Be patient with them. They usually have quite impressive after sales service. The premium you pay for their gear deserves a corresponding level of support

Eminence doesn't make a retail 16 ohm neo driver, so if you can't get the OEM you'll have to replace all of them. The price of drivers in Oz being what it is you may find it more economical to replace the cab entirely.

I misspoke earlier, Eminence does have an off the shelf 16 ohm neo, the Basslite SC10-16.

It's seldom one I consider, as the specs are tilted towards a sealed cab, but it will work in a ported cab as well. It may or may not be the same basic driver that the Mesa uses, the only way to find out is to compare the Mesa to the pictures.

They're the ones I'm talking about, those wheels that are on your cab when we traded were actually from Aaron Taylor, as he got them a lot quicker and cheaper than Pro Audio could get them to me.

But it's a cab 4x12.

Oops. I just saw '4x10' because '4x12' is so rare with bass. Are you sure the drivers are neo? Nothing on the Mesa site indicates neo, the weight certainly doesn't.

I doubt they are neo, the powerhouse range weighs so much it wouldn't be worthwhile or noticeable. Not nearly as noticeable as the hernia after carrying one around for more than a week anyway. I talk from experience with the powerhouse 810.

Off memory they were not the Neo speakers. All Mesa speakers are custom specced by Mesa, so off the shelf Eminence will not do. Back when I ran the Mesa line we had the 12" speakers on hand, so I would be surprised if Pro Audio did not have any on hand. They are not cheap though of course, at least they were not back when I was running it.

Also, Pro Audio is technically no longer - the actual store front has closed down and is currently being moved/merged with Better Music, so thats why you may not have received an answer. My advice would be to call Better Music, ask for Rowan (he runs Mesa now) and tell him Loz recommended you call him. He's a good guy and should be able to help.
