And some of the pickups in construction....

These covers mimic the timber in the body. They're Koa on top with a layer of black veneer over Mahogany.

And then some final machining for the pole pieces. The fit around the poles is so exact that the pickup cover will only fit one way. Interestingly these Nordstrand pickups are more accurately made than the Seymour Duncan pickups and have much more regularity to the spacing of the pole pieces.

Hi Folks,
I've been working away quietly on David Galea's bass build and David has been itching for some new update shots! So here we go. All of the painting is done. I've shot satin nitro on all the bits (no tinting, so all of the colour that you see is the natural tones of the wood. The painting stick will tell you otherwise, but it has done the rounds of a few basses to date! ). All there is now to do is assembly! :partydance:

All the bits lined up. with the body still on its painting stick.

Koa, Koa and more Koa....

And a few more..

The truss rod cover. Hand cut mother of pearl inlaid into highly figured Koa with a black veneer pinstripe.

David gave me some artistic license to do a twelfth fret inlay. Its only very small (not much bigger than a fretboard dot! So I went with one of my designs that I used in the 'Big Blue' bass.

and some shots of the ramp sitting in place next to the pickup cover. The ramp (matching Koa with a black pin stripe over Mahogany) will be sanded to its final thickness when the bass has been assembled so I get the Height just right!

The next set of shots will be of the finished instrument (as I've already got the bridge in and some of the wiring!)

cheers, David
