Gentlemen prefer blondes! SOLD!!! Happy birthday Blaine

Post by David Searle Guitars » 10 Jul 2015, 19:24

I'd like to introduce to you Marilyn.

She's an all blonde bombshell.

Her measurements are: 35", with a 8-1/2" waist, and 13-3/4" around the hips......

Her neck is made up of a two piece quartersawn maple which has been decked out with a highly figured maple fretboard. under this lies a fine pinstripe of black veneer. She has block inlays of Paua shell culminating with a bass clef inlay at the 24the fret. Her side dots are also Paua shell.

Her top is highly figured quilted maple over a another layer of black veneered maple. All then laminated over a rear section of American black walnut. Her headstock is matching quilted maple, also pinstriped.

She'll have matching figured maple pickup covers (Seymour Duncan NYC) and be bejewelled in ALL GOLD hardware.

You'll see from her classic lines that she has a certain pedigree with a few of my own design elements thrown in.

Please enjoy ;)

She started out with a neck-through construction of super hard quartesawn maple. With Marilyn I've decided to use two truss rods and no carbon fibre rods. From the shots below you'll notice that the truss rods are not of equal length. I've use a short one on top (as a longer truss rod will not bend the neck after its attachment point at the twelfth fret) and a longer truss rod on the lower side to accommodate the long 35" 24 fret section of the neck.

Some mahogany filler strips in place over the truss rods

Some 'ears' being glued onto Marilyn's headstock.

And some highly figured quilted maple side wings with their clamping lobes still in place.

And of course you'd never look away from a few shots of Marilyn's rear view now would you?

And there she'll have to rest until her pickups turn up.

I'll post more shots as her neck shaping takes place.

When you finally get a finish on her and the grain pops, it will be AMAZING!

Very impressive David. I see what you men about this being special.. I like the body design mods with greater access on the treble and the flow of body shape to the 12 fret. Rest not to shabby either.

Marilyn? The top body contour reminds me of Rihanna's forehead.

The grain does look great
