Check out this latest build by one of my students Simon Stephenson! What a great result! Simon has created his 'take' on an early Fender type P bass with a maple neck (tele headstock) 34" with a candy apple red 'slab' alder body, hipshot bridge, his own pickguard design and a vintage fender pickup. This bass absolutely thumps and growls! Well done Simon!

Sounded massive through the Glock rig last night. Ben had never played something so aggressive and out there and was talking about it most of the way home on how different it is to our collection.
... dial in some "J" to angry it up!

Got gear but little talent!

Sounded mighty - should have stayed to hear it through the 410 :-)

Got to hear and briefly play Blaine's build today. It came up really nice although the lack of side markers made it a little difficult for a novice like myself but he was all over it. Congrats Blaine !!

Thanks for the kind words Pete but I was only all over it (read all over the place) because I was struggling with the scale after using the Mouse almost exclusively. Anywho... here are the obligatory pictures of what a cast of hundreds has helped Ben and I build. Oh and I will be putting side dots on sometime soon. :)

So this is obviously Ben's Cookie Monster. It was a big hit at school with his friends. Plays a lot more seriously than it looks. EMG Active pups with VVT controls, Hipshot headless system.

And my Walnut and Wenge Fender-esk with Heaths Monster Pickups and Drive electronics built in. The knobs are Master Volume, Individual Volumes for each pup, a Tone, Drive Level and 4-Way selector switch that moves between pups alone, two different impedance settings for the Tone and Drive engaged.

Again big thanks to Dave and Rob for their assistance getting these together and for the input along the way from all the other guys who built their own. Also a big shout to Heath for putting the pups together for me and allowing me to use them in this build. They sound really good mate, my playing won't do them justice but they work really well.

Both look great, Blaine,

Haven't seen or heard either yet but if they sound anywhere near as good as they look we have two home runs.

Regards,
Michael

Well done Blaine - you've done a great job, I'd love to hear some samples of the tonal variation possibilities at some point if you get time?

Ben's is an absolute cack, I have no doubt it's a solid unit though - I'm glad you guys saw them all the way through. It's been a great journey to watch, so thanks for sharing :)
