Heard this song today and realised I could now play it without downtuning my bass to Eb - quickly learned by ear when i got home and posted this up. I think its a setting on the video software i used to mash the recording, but all the low end notes don't really come through properly on this video which is disappointing.

Nice playing Davin. The bass really looks and sounds terrific. You should be very proud of your work

Well that works. I agree with Ivan, you've got to be proud of that bass.

Hi Davin,

Interested to hear of any real-world experiences, i.e. gig with the bass. Comfy to play? Sound as it should be? Let us know.

Regards,
Michael

Hi Michael,

Good timing. My old band has gone on indefinate hiatus, but I'm filling in for a pop/rock band. Used it for a rehearsal a couple days ago.

As I anticipated, it's just a hair on the heavy side after extended use, but I love these pickups and preamp. I leave it basically flat, but the tone is perfect for band application. Comfortable to play. Took a little bit to adapt to the completely flat board, and also adapting to 5 string - but it's the most comfortable 5 string I've ever owned. The cheap ebs strings I got seemed to have a dudd low b out of the pack, so I'll swap those over for elixirs and hope it's not an issue with the instrument itself.

Will report back after I gig with it.

(And I'm planning my next build - 6 string guitar most likely....I'll start up a new thread I the luthiery board when I get going).

Sounds great (pun intended). Any gigs coming up?

Re B string: pretty much every one of them I’ve put on was a little les bright than the other strings, and dulled noticeably quicker.

Michael
