I just received my invoice from Bass Centre, advising that after my $100 deposit, I still owe $1699.00..

That’s $700 more expensive than my Capri orange PJ Mustang, which is also MIM. Surely the tuners, pickup, thumb rest and relicing don’t make for $700 price difference?

Happy to be educated.

Andy
So you've actually formally ordered one? Sweet! When's it due?

Yep. I formally put down the $100 deposit in mid-December.

They’ve arrived, which is why I’ve been issued the invoice:

“Good news, we finally have your new Fender JMJ signature Mustang bass here ready to go, they are absolutely fantastic....”

That's exactly my point - i'm baulking at the price big-time... I noticed that a beautiful late 70's Yamaha BB1200 sold here recently for $750 (damn, I wish I had seen that)... there are several tasty USA 70's Musicman Stingray guitars (not basses) on eBay for a couple of hundred dollars less than the JMJ Mustang, and as I said, I got my MIM PJ Mustang for just on a grand.... I'm really having a difficult time justifying the price/value,l which is dumb as I knew the price when I put the deposit down.

It seems to be as good as you will get to one of the really good 66 Mustangs, and a damn sight cheaper, just go with it. I can tell you I paid a fair bit more for my 66 Mustang! Who knows once I try this out I may put mine up for sale...

Yep, I've looked at a few vintage Mustang 4's, and can't justify the money.

Have you got your name on one of the 9 JMJ's that Bass Centre originally ordered? Dave kind of let slip that there might be a second batch, as I know they have a waiting list of keen buyers.

No I’m not in a position to order anything right now, downsizing is the name of the game and not in scale length either! I’d want to play one first, side by side if possible...

Well, I closed my eyes and pressed the "pay invoice" button, then phoned Dave at Bass Centre. Mine was the very last of the original 9 to leave and is heading off today. Dave confirmed that they have ordered another 10 JMJ Mustangs, but have no idea of the wait time. Of the 10 ordered in the 2nd batch, only a couple have been reserved, so there's an opportunity if you really **must** have one of these.

Money doesn't permit at the moment, but I would like a Mustang one day. The biggest dilemma I have however, is would I take a Mustang out the door before my 71 P, CS Jazz etc etc. It's really hard to say yes I would. If I won't gig it, should I have one?

My current main band it is THE sound I want and gets every gig and rehearsal, so you never know. I’m tempted by this as a backup/replaceable 66 Mustang... but can’t right now.
