I have looked through the entire 102 pages (to date) of the basses - had to happen...Let's See Your Basses! thread and the photos that are left after PhotoBucket decided to charge a greedy fee for their service on their loyal supporters, and I have enjoyed all the pics immensely. Such a beautiful collection of basses and it took me hours to go through each page reading the comments as well. My wife got up at 8am and said have you been sitting there all night..lol..I never realised it was morning. I swear the time flew by so quickly..at least that's what I thought...it had been at least 8 hours uploading pics and reading through threads. Wonderful website guys and I have just scratched the surface. We bass players really are a bunch of great comedians and I will fit right in.
Thought I'd start a fresh - hope that's ok Mods (?)

Looking forward to seeing the additions and subtractions from OzBass-ers.

Great idea... (Super unimpressed with photosucket). Here are my current basses. All electrics are my own designs and built mostly using recycled and or aussie timbers.

#007, with a multitude of switches and levers, BRG and 3 pickups for extra stealth tone.
Image

#008, coffee table, multiscale 6 string (31-33" scale), guitar tuners and heavily chambered.
Image

#010, with a liquidambar top, cooktown ironwood board, 32" scale, guitar tuners, heavily chambered and Dave Wendler's piezo blend system.
Image

1920s German 3/4 Upright, french bow, ehrlund PU and Velvet strings.

Crikey! Those basses are wild. But that upright is dropdead gorgeous. Love the 3/4's too. I once dated a girl who owned a French 3/4 from 1750. I can't play standup for shit, but her bass made me sound great!

Sure, I'll play. Current only? Well, I'll throw one in that's been inspirational yet ended up being sold.

First bass: 1990 Warwick Thumb NT

Then: 1992 Sandberg Classic S2 5 NT

Some gear pic gratuitously thrown in:

That was pretty much it until 2015 when I received the Dingwall Z2:

Amazing bass and the inspiration for me to start building. Since then things have changed a fair bit. Stormy was sold, and I started building.

First build - "Red Baron"

Build 2 was for my son.

Build 3 - the original "Kermit", totally inspired by the Dingwall and many other basses

In the background is my current rig as well - notice the change in size (and weight) but not volume ;) .

Build 4 - the "Q", total prototype, and I'm currently re-doing the body (the neck is absolutely perfect):

Build 5 is some project that has completely stalled.

Build 6 - "Manta" - currently my main player.

Build 7 - "Kermit Gaia" - just finished, gorgeous bass to play, and sounds very fretless.

There are a few more in the pipeline (a fretless 5 string Manta with a zebrano top, a 5 string Kermit with an indian rosewood top and SD pickup and electronics), and of course my first build, a 4 string "Q" but with a Delano MM pickup.

There you go. Nice if you can build stuff ;) .

Regards,
Michael

- EBS OctaBass, Boss MS-3, Line6 G50

A few of you will recognise most of these from the classifieds...

Here is my workhorse "bitsa bass" - 69 P body with a J pickup and a Jaguar Bass neck.

Image

73' Musicmaster with an added J, Marcus Miller Jazz with Bill Lawrence pickups, modded fully passive.

Image

71' Ibanez EB3 (borrowed pic!).

Image

81' Ibanez Blazer with an Ibanez ABG hiding behind it. The Ibanez SRX and the Nate Mendel also behind it are now gone.

Image

late 80's MIJ Fender Jazz fretless.

Image

51 P copy.

Image

G&L L5500 (sold), Yamaha TRB 5II, Epiphone T Bird (sold), Fender Jag, Squier VM Fretless, 83' Squier JV P, Hofner 500/1 Icon, Hondo P (Sold).

Image

Shen SB150 Hybrid Upright - pickup is a 'mag plus' made by a local player here...essential a P bass pickup. I also have a realist on the bridge.

First of all: how come we can still see your PhotoBucket shots?

Do you mean '14 for the Sabre? If not it's pre-'91.

How's the balance on the ASAT? I've often wondered about those. They look like they should be very neck heavy.

My current herd is 9. I don't have any pics of the two most recent aquisitions, but I'm sure you can easily imagine a sunburst/tort/rw Fender P bass (80s Fullerton RI) and a black/rw P bass (MIJ) :-)
