Sydney is a hole mate.

There's Billy Hydes on Pitt St - nothing but overpriced Fenders and student instruments. Nothing else in the CBD. Downtown Music and Global Vintage are a bus ride away for old school MIJ Fenders/Grecos/etc.

Not in CBD, but we do have Bass Gear Direct for boutique gear. Showroom visits appointment only.

If you head south from Sydney CBD about 9 hours, there's a store called the Bass Centre. That's your best bet.

I gave the surf a miss yesterday and paid my first visit to Downtown yesterday. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Not a huge range of basses and even fewer amps, but might be worth calling ahead to see if they stock anything you're after.

I haven't been there but there's also the guitar lounge on Clarence St in the CBD.

Allans doesn't stock any Fender gear anymore. Only Gibson/Epiphone and the occasional student level Yamaha / Ibanez. The few things they can get are rarely in stock, there aren't enough staff and the staff they have don't know anything.

Guitar Lounge ONLY sells Fender and usually has plenty of stock but the guys that runs the place is a d**k.

Global Vintage has some cool pedals, Downtown, Wild Horse and Guitar Factory Gladesville are OK... that's about it.

Sydney really is a wasteland when it comes to music gear these days.

Really? I haven't had dealings with him apart from a couple of brief phone conversations, but have fantasies about walking in there and spending some of my recent redundancy money  I assumed he was a good guy

Big music at crows nest has a limited range of fenders and squiers. sometimes they have a Rick. This is the norm for most of the stores in Sydney. Mall Music at Brookvale has a few Sandbergs , Ibanez and fenders. They can be a little highly priced.
Having fun is half the fun- Warwick Corvette $$ 4- Cort acoustic 4 - no name ebay special 5 (now fretless), Kala spruce fretless Ubass, Washburn M-3SWS mandolin , Ashbory and a 2001 LTD edition Warwick Thumb Fretless 4.

The couple of times I've had cause to deal with him were both painful experiences - the website doesn't publish prices at all and he refused to give me a price over the phone on a bass I was ready to buy, even though the website claims that he will beat any other price.

You may have a different experience, but I certainly felt like he wasn't interested in my business, so he didn't get it.
