OzBass Members' gigs - go on promote yourself!

Post by jezzamac » 01 Dec 2008, 20:08

I'll start this one -
I've recently been recruited to Night Radio who will be playing at the Excelsior Hotel at Glebe (NB NOT in Surry Hills) on 14 December. Here is our myspace: http://www.myspace.com/nightradio . Don't expect funk or rock for this one (we save that for another incarnation).

Here's a recent photo

Sadly just private gigs at the moment (although the money is good!). Will definitely mention it for the next public gig.

Oh, I think we may be playing at some carols thing in Camden on Friday week, probably upbeat jazz stuff... but who wants to trek out to Camden!

Same here. Though we do have one public gig in December - Sat Dec 27th at the Oatley Hotel, 8.30 start.

Very much a retro band with a "Medley" gimmick and a very tongue-in-cheek vibe.

You can find my "band" playing every sunday morning & evening @ Port City Christian Church in Gladstone...:D

I cannot promote myself, but I can try to promote the name of God...seriously...If you heard me play you'd say "what in GOD'S NAME is he playing????" (see there, I'm promoting God's name...:D )

Sorry, Phil...I have no pictures...I'd like to have one myself, actually...:(

I'd have my wife take a snap, but since I only really ever play evening service and she rarely ever goes to evening service (little ones go to bed early), that could take a while...

I should just take a snap of Alex (our other bassist) playing on a Sunday morning when he's on roster and then substitute my ugly mug...:D
But he plays a Warwick Streamer LTD and I usually play my Squier DJAV, so I'd have to photoshop the bass in, too ;)

Got a gig for some company's Xmas party tonight, on a boat cruising around on the Pittwater... should be fun (if it's not too choppy. I think last time I played on a boat I had my upright wedged somehow under the ceiling so it was fixed and I could hang off it when the swell got a bit rough :)

We're pioneering the "Scofield Set" idea tonight. Our instrumental set is entirely John Scofield songs, but I doubt anybody will care or notice! Everything else is suitably loungy/dancey/funky/souly, so it should be fun.

ahhh the Harbour Cruise.. AKA the captive audience with no-where to run :)

Actually we've played several of those this Xmas and they've been really god fun. I've actually scored a gig on Sydney Harbour for New Years Eve too. Talk about prime position for the fireworks. Apparently the boat I'm on is also part of a laser display of some sort....

It's open to the public but at $500 a ticket, I won't be offended if no-one I know comes along. As one of my friends said - "For that price, I'd expect the band to be the Rolling Stones"!!!

Got a lot of good comments from the (admittedly drunk) partygoers, sounds like a lot of them are keen to have us play at other functions so it turned out well. We got a pretty damn good sound as well, which we were happy about.
