It seems that Smartsend are perfectly fine if the shipper is located in a mainland capital city, but that the regional sub-contractors are the potential problem.

Just spent all day at home waiting for these Dumbsend chumps to pick up my parcel...didn't turn up. Might have to try someone else next time...

Smartsend and then two other agents to get my RD from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast in under 3 working days.
Trackable, insured, good communication and responsiveness from the agents- the driver rang to check there would be somebody home to sign.
What more can you ask?
Great service!

but did the tracking actually work as my amp i received almost 2 weeks ago still has no updates on tracking besides the initial consignment being lodged through smartsend. I did however receive the amp fairly quickly unlike when my traynor came from tas which sparked this post by rod as there service was beyond poor.

I won't ever use SmartSend again, they wasted nearly 2 weeks of my time NOT being able to deliver a bass between Sydney and Metro VIC. Had to cancel the whole deal and pay Pack&Send to do it properly. It seemed to arrive in mere minutes, by comparison. :)

Apart from being a day or so late on collections, dumb send has been pretty good fit me lately.
Perhaps they've tightened up their Tassie side of things.

Packages have been delivered promptly n safely. But almost always if I arrange collection for, say Tuesday 1-5pm, they'll not pick it up until Wed or even Thursday, and any time seems to suit them too.
My local freight guys ate still WAY better as far as times, speed of delivery & care. .... BUT they don't insure for a decent price. I've NEVER had the slightest problem with em, but that lack of reasonable rated insurance leaves me cold.

I'd sent large cabs thru them and once it got there the next day-Hobart to Western Sydney. I was sending the con note to the buyer and they messaged me saying not too worry as it arrived early morning. I'd dropped it at their Depot about 10am the previous day.

I had a great experience with pack&send too -
I started with smartsend, and was trying to send an amp up to Sydney. Smartsend have a clause where if the package is over 30kgs, they require a forklift at least on delivery, and this tacks another ~$90 onto the order straight away. I couldn't work out a way to arrange drop off to the local courier either and that required a forklift on pickup too since I couldn't be at home to load it during the hours they quoted. Days of frigging about and back and forths, and I gave up.

Called Pack&Send, it's a guy operating out of Wagga, he was fine with me dropping off to the local depot (he knew them all by name), and had it sorted in under 2 hours at almost half the price of Smartsend, including insurance. It was delivered in 6 days which included a weekend and 2 public holidays.

Highly recommended.

I's now been 8 days since it was picked up, and the tracking hasn't been updated once. I sent them an email, and got the standard response - it will take between 8 - 9 working days.

I packed my Markbass CL300 in a plastic storage crate from Bunnings and got a quote at Smartsend to ship the 26kg package from Sydney to Melbourne. Instead of paying $120 for the guaranteed overnight delivery, I selected the el cheapo "2-3 days" option ($36 including insurance and signed delivery), and it still made it door to door in less than 24 hours!

5 years ago I took two packages.... An amp (12kg) removed separated from its 2x10 combo housing (around 25kg)... The boxes arrived inside 3 days from Melbourne to my Gladstone, Qld home... I recall that total shipping costs was $182 ... The number sticks in my head for some reason ... I was very happy with Smartsend
