Stolen 1969 Fender Jazz Bass

Post by timobee4 » 28 Oct 2010, 11:52

My beloved 69 Jazz bass was stolen out of my house on Australia day 2009. Serial number 278621
I owned that bass for 15 years and it was probably the best bass I ever had! I have not played bass ever since!!!!!! I also play upright bass and just cant get myself to buy another bass guitar. That bass will hopefully find its way to someone with a some consciousness! It was reported to Sunshine Police station and although they found the scum junkie dog they can never find my bass. Please help! :help
If anyone ever see my sweet bass pls. Call me on 0488244535 thanx

The junkie would have sold it pretty quickly, so January 2009 would have been a useful timeframe to spread the word. Almost 2 years down the track makes it tough to track down.

Most eBay/Gumtree/Trading Post sellers don't list serial numbers in their ads. What colour was it? Any unusual identifying features that would be visible in photos if we saw it?

Basses: Nash, Fender, Cataldo, Duesenberg, Greco, Ibanez
Rig: Fender, Ampeg, PJB

Endorsing artist: Fender; Cave Passive Pedals

Mate, really sorry to hear of your loss.
I cant imagine what you've been through. If my baby was stolen, I'd be beside myself.
I made a note of your serial number & have stuck it on the wall behind my screen. If I come across anything resembling it, I'll be sure to let ya know.
btw, what sorts finish does it have?
Please, list as many specs as you can, & some pics if possible.
You might try some of the dealers that buy & take trade ins, like The Bass Centre, etc. Do a google & phone book search of all music instrument shops & ask if they could let you know if they chance upon it.
Also, this link's to a very handy search tool that scans all ebay & craigslist ads, in case it's made it's way to the USA. Just enter in the details, then hit the GO button. A complete compilation will appear & you can scan through those. It's a distinct possibility your bass has ended up overseas.

Good luck.

So there is absolutely nobody in the whole entire Australian bass community who might have seen my baby at a gig or at a friends place.:(

This isn't the entire bass community - its a VERY small percentage of aussie players. All the best with it, i cant begin to imagine losing one of mine.

Mate, I saw this bass for sale on eBay some time ago. I remember it well. With its wear it's very distinctive.
I wanted to buy it but was not in a position to.
I remember thinking how cool it looked with all it's mojo.
It started of for sale as whole bass but ended up being sold in parts.
I'm almost 100% sure it is the same bass.

Yeah, unfortunately. Even tho it was years ago I remember the ad saying the body had been refinished natural and a lot of the refinish had worn off.
I really feel sorry for that guy.

You reap what you sow, I'm sure the person who stole the bass would have to pay a big price someday.

Although in the metaphysical sense I agree with you, I'm sure the OP would prefer more tangible retribution.
