On-selling stuff received via the Free Stuff Thread

Feedback from sales, stolen goods, dodgy sellers etc...

sadly there is no way to stop this other than to somehow point out the person that would do such a thing.

its really just about personal values . some of us can't put our hand up for stuff from the thread unless we already have given something or feel the need to give something as soon as we receive

others I guess are of the mind that its 'see a penny pick it up and all day you'll have good luck ' good luck in the sense that you can now start your free stuff from oz bass ebay store .

there are good people here I have received and sent a few people some stuff and hopefully we won't let it spoil the whole thing .

even if the thread stalls the love is still there
I advertised the need for an 8 inch speaker and evanseveneleven came up with the goods for postage and the price of a slurpy for the walk home from the postie

so even if the thread isn't there the love still is ..
I was to young to be a hippy in the 70s so I'm not sure where that came from
maton jb4 godin bg5 and now a double bass
ibby 556 6string bolt on for sale
need to sell stuff to get a malioux but no one is buying !!!

I'd be dissapointed if something that i gave to someone being sold again just because that person "doesnt need it" - cant he/she just pass it back to someone else??

If I can remember I sent my squier pickups to jamiesdad, and now I heard that he replaced them with nordstrands, hoping either he would keep it or even give it to someone else. Man, we're all lucky enough to get free stuff from someone else, I think we should be grateful for something that we didn't work for, regardless of the value.

replaced with nordies - i wish - would make the pups worth more than the bass - have just put foam underneath and adjusted it all but they are still going strong terry - still got the SX pups if anyone wants them :D

Only within certain limited categories, of course. Don't expect me to notice anything related to boutique basses, roundwound strings, basses with more than 4 strings, or ramps.

You can add Warwick basses to that too !

Sorry guys. you obviously have too much time on your hands. All this over a strap??? Ok I understand the theory and the goodwill and would expect the same, but its not a big dollar investment here. What was it 10-20 bucks? If it was a bass or even anything with a value of more than $50 then maybe....

Im really gunna be shot down for this next comment, but i would expect this on TB but not here. This could have been sorted with a PM or two, it doesnt have to be put on public display unless there was a SEVERE negative reaction to the PM.

Lets concentrate on talking about bass gear. The good & the bad. Not everyone putting their :2c: in on something they dont know anything about....

Haha well since Mark hasn't replied to my apology about the strap and I never received a PM etc I'm wondering if perhaps it was something else someone put up for sale that raised isssues.

In principle, I agree with Mark, and he's been very generous with what he's given out for free, without asking for postage. As I previously said, I was hardly looking to profit with selling on the strap, more just covering costs I incurred to get it fixed to a useable fashion. I'm now keeping it because its great on my Fender Jazz!

In the original post I didn't mention anybody or refer to any particular item. I was merely passing comment on how I believed the spirit of the Free Stuff thread should be maintained. I don't give a sh!t about the money - which is why I gave a whole lot of items away for free in the first place, and paid for all the postage myself (it was chickenfeed in the overall scheme of things).

People who have actually been donors of Free Stuff have chimed in and shared their views as well, and it seems that there is alignment on the topic.

As Mark said, no individual or item was singled out. The purpose of his thread was to make the ozbass community aware that this had happened and it's probably best if it doesn't continue. A PM to an individual will address the issue with that individual only. This thread will ensure a number of people think twice about doing something similar.

Can you please elaborate on what you meant about everyone putting their :2c: in on something they don't know anything about?

I dont think its about how much its worth, I think it's more about ethical issue. I think Mark was just reminding people about it.

Hey guys,
I jst wish people would try and solve the problem without airing their grievences here first. as i said, its not the money, its the goodwill. This could have been sorted. People dont need to know. Sort it out between yourselves. The 2cent line was a reply to all the comments left on this post.

In conclusion, i dont want to see this forum turn into talkbass where everybody has a whinge about everyone else publically. Please sort it out between yourselves.

Lets all just get along and play bass!

The intention of this thread going on the OP is valid. The strap may have been what prompted Mark, maybe not, but it's not important. There was never an intent to call out anyone, point fingers or lay blame. Nothing wrong with bringing to people's attention the kinds of things to consider when giving stuff away, there are other issues with handing over things that are outside of fairness and ethics.

Everyone has different ideas about what is acceptable and fair. No crime was committed, no forum rules were broken and there is no need to "stone throw" or degrade anyone. There's no one here I'm sure that is blameless in life and surely hasn't had to deal with unfair public scrutiny in many situations.

Let's get back on topic then.
