These SG reissues are excellent sounding and very well built (surprisingly so for Gibson, who are not known for having stellar quality control). The TB-Plus pickup in the neck position is a fantastic pickup, and is the same pickup that Gibson used on their 1990's Thunderbirds and all of the non-Bartolini equipped Les Paul basses since the early 1990's. Unlike the "mudbucker" of the original EB-0 and EB-3 range from the 1960's and 1970's, the TB-Plus pickup is a full range pickup that combines thick, beefy lows with cutting mid range. The mini humbucker at the bridge can be a snarly little beast too when the treble knob is cranked.
This is the "faded" model, which means that the mahogany body and neck are stained in cherry and then finished in a satin nitrocellulose clear coat, rather than the gloss poly finish of the "SG Standard" model.
The bass comes in the nice and comfy plush white fur lined Gibson hard case, and is in excellent unmarked condition apart from some buckle swirls on the back of the body (see close up photo).
I bought this bass new almost a year ago, and it's been gigged and/or used at rehearsal approx 12-15 times. It's been wearing flats since I bought it, but I've put the original factory rounds back on it that have never been played.
I think the retail price on these is around $1690 or thereabouts. My price is $1200 for pickup in Sydney, or $1250 shipped Australia wide by insured and trackable courier delivery to your door.
