WTB decent 5er (or nice 4!)

Post by Pilliwinks » 18 Mar 2018, 22:01

Hi guys, I'm looking for a decent 5 string, preferably MIJ or US, and preferably active.

If anyone has a G&L M2500, Cirrus, Lakland Shoreline or Sadowsky Metro 5, for example, that they are not using so much, I'd be happy to help fund your next purchase.

I would consider a Tribute or Skyline, but I would really like this to be my "forever" 5, so I'm not after a super cheapy. The only other thing is that this is for live, so heavy is not so good (Thumbs etc). I'm not after a Fender (got an Aerodyne).

Ideally I'd be looking at $1000 or so, but for a good deal I could go a fair bit higher, and for a really nice bass I would consider a 4 (I'm happy with my 4, but I could be tempted by a pretty Metroline MV4, for example!).

There was a guy selling a Sadowsky MS5 59 on gumtree, which would have been perfect, but he's not responding :(

If anyone can help out, I'd really appreciate it.

$1000? Must be a typo? There is a MV5 on gumtree. $1900 in Burwood Sydney.

I did say I would consider Tributes - they often go for well under $1000. Clearly not $1000 for a Sadowsky, though.

Thanks for pointing out the MV5 - I'll give him a try.

I love them. On someone else's back! I'm not a happy camper with much more than 4kg these days :( Now if someone had a nice light one rather than the 12lb monsters I always seem to find...

Hm. I've got a Schecter hellraiser extreme 5 which will hit the classifieds shortly as I've gone Spector/Dingwall.

Interested in a Warwick Trujillo 5? I'm thinking of moving mine on and just sticking with 4s. It's a nice player. Active EMGs. You're welcome to come and try it out if ya want. It's this very bass here: http://ozbassforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=20616

It's done the rounds through OzBass :)

The Schecter and Trujillo are both very nice looking instruments.

I'm not much of a metal guy, though, and would feel a bit of a bit of a wally playing such a thing :red face

Not that I'm an old stick in the mud.

OK, maybe I am an old stick in the mud - I'm not really into aggressive sounding basses. "Clank" and "bite" are not my thing. Growl and grind I have no problem with.

Now that is tempting. Man, those M7s look nice.

The only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on one of them is the resale. I know I want to keep it, but if it turns out we don't get along, I'm not going to be able to trade it for much.

Oh well, the Sadowsky in Sydney looks like it has gone to a local, so maybe I need to give Sire a go. I know TalkBass has some Sire fans. Any Aussies like 'em?

Hi! I've got a very nice Human Base Roxy 5 string in very, very good condition that will be up for sale as soon as I get around to it.
Mat Black Light Swamp Ash body, Slim radius 3 pc. Maple neck with rosewood board, Dunlop strap locks. 18.5 string spacing at the bridge, so pretty close to most standard 4's
ETS (milled, not cast) bridge, Delano Extender pick up with series / parralell toggle, 9v. Glockenklang active 3 way, or passive with typical tone roll off. Medium / low action with a fairly fresh set of Kalium balanced strings (.43-145 -- sounds heavy, but B is tight and rings clean, & clear with a true fundamental).
Best way I could describe the tone is bright and deep -- a little bit similar to a sting Ray, mostly due to the fat quad coil pick up placement, but with way more versatility and also clarity due to the superior pick up and pre.
Let me know if this whets your appetite and I'll sort out some pics for you to check out. Bass is in Murwillubah, Northern Rivers NSW.
Feel free to call or text me, Michael, on 0422 003 095.
(Unless you are looking for something very specific [that is not this], I promise you'd be very happy with this as an all around keeper 5 string bass).

That's not the same one DamoMan sold here a couple of years ago is it? That one has certainly done the rounds!

Nice looking beasts, though, those Roxies. How much are you planning to ask for it?

Wow - lovely Corvette! That's a bit out my price range, though, and I'm hankering for a 5 string.

Very tempting, though. GLWTS!
