Informal Sydney Mini-GTG

Post by drbass » 15 Jul 2018, 16:08

Hi all,

I’ve nearly finished a commission build that is going to Sydney (the other one, well, search for Kermit Reject ;) ) and instead of boxing it up and shipping it at great cost I thought I’d take the opportunity to do a personal delivery.

That would also give me an opportunity to bring my other builds so far for anyone to try (yes, Reject will be making the trip as well). Ideally this would happen in one location (probably someone’s place, however I’m currently exploring a different option) but I would be open to visit people individually (that would mean short time slots though).

Possible dates are Saturday 11 August or Saturday 25 August. Would be great to get an idea of interest (if any) in this idea.

Regards,
Michael

I'm free the 11th.
I should be free for the 25th.

Oh yay. Def keen to be involved. :yep

25 August would work better for me but could possibly do the morning of 11 August if more people are available on that date.

Both are 50/50 for me depending on time/location and how that week's gigs work. I'm keen in either case. Haven't seen you guys for too long!

Quick update on this.

I'm now leaning heavily towards the 25th of August since the commission build had to go back into the spray booth and I want to make sure that it settles for a week or two after initial setup to do the final setup.

The main issue now is the venue. I had a good chat with George from Bassgeardirect (you all know him, nicest guy!) and he loved the idea of meeting at his place but informed me that he can fit 2, maybe three people into his showroom at the moment so we both agreed that this wouldn't be a viable option.

That leaves me with a couple of potential ways forward.
A first option would be individual catchups. Certainly viable but a lot more hassle, and of course there wouldn't be an opportunity to catch up with others and general chitchat (which is always useful and interesting).
Second would be hiring a small venue - small since we're not comparing amps and setups but this one is just about the instruments. While George kindly offered to make gear available I'll happily bring my small rig which I believe is more than capable. I would need some sort of guidance as to which venue is suitable, and how to contact the venue.
A last option would be to meet at someone's place which means that there are additional gear options available.

Let me know what you think, or you might have another option I can't think of.

Regards,
Michael

Hi Michael

August 25th would work for me, and I’d love to see how your babies are progressing.

As a possible option I have a living room in Crows Nest - just north of the Bridge - that could accommodate 10-12 people. Not too far from MaxGroover. I have a Bergantino B|Amp paired with a CN212. Only possible problem is we might be renovating starting that week: I need to check and confirm.
Eleven. Exactly. One louder.

Hi Tim,

That would be fantastic - nice rig in addition to my small Genzler setup.

Keep me posted - of course it wold be best if there were any other options as well.

Regards,
Michael

My garage is a possibility but I think my younger son has a football gala day on the 25th which may restrict timings. I may be able to get timings for the gala day in the next day or two...

Can we start a list of attendees? I'm in - just have to work around the above-mentioned football gala day but I'm thinking a 2.30pm start could be good if that works for others?

I’ll be available from 10:30, 11-ish.
If we end up with a pm start I’ll most likely will try and catch up with George first.

Any news regarding the renovations, Tim?

Michael

Hi Michael, we won't be starting till mid-Sept so the space is available. It depends on how many people want to come: It'd be comfortable for up to about ten people.
Cheers,
Tim
