I use Ernie Ball Cobalt Super Slinky Flatwounds (#2814 Pink) on my StingRay. Tried a set. Immediately bought 10 more.
Did any break?
I haven't had any break so far, so I'm fairly confident mine aren't from a bad batch.

Cool that you've found strings you like! I've learned the hard way to wait at least 2-3 weeks before I get the enthusies and spring for more. Lost count of how many strings I've tried that I've liked straight out of the packet (always the kiss of death) and hated 3 weeks later.

Now when I try a new set and they sound terrible I immediately think "Ahhhh this might work.... patience grasshopper!"

Mike
I was looking for something to calm my StingRay down, so it could've been almost any flats, I suppose. But I'm on my 3rd set and still think they sound great.

I have a set of EB Cobalt flats on my Sabre. I put a set on the first Sabre, that I planned to remove before selling it. The guy who bought it played it with the Cobalts and really wanted those strings, so I had to buy some more. I usually get bored of flatwounds pretty quickly, other than for recording, but still like these.

My favorite strings are D'Addario. I started out using nickel wound /coated strings but then discovered their steel string range, in particular FlexSteels - i prefer brighter sounding strings. The Flexsteels are now discontinued but i managed to buy around 30 sets (from Strings and Beyond) when they were on sale / clearance. The steel strings are a bit harsher on your fingers when playing but i put on GHS Fast Fret which i find makes things better. Generally speaking i have had no problems with D'Addario with regards to dud strings which break easily either.

My fretless has the same labella flats it came with!
I haven't had a reason to replace them and they must be nearly 10yrs old I reckon...

I may have to give the chromes a run

A guitar tech once put some JVB cryogenic strings that I had on for years, quite a long time ago now. I instantly fell in love with the zingy crisp sound. When I thought it was time to change the strings, I only found the Dean Markley Blue Steels cryo's. So I used Blue Steels ever since. They last ages, and still sound good, but you really notice the difference when you replace them with new strings.

Lately, since stainless steels have had such good reviews I've been trying out different strings depending. Warwick Red SS can be found cheap, and I bought a set of Elixir nanoweb's which I have yet to use. A recent purchase came with a set of GHS Boomers which sound alright. So I might check them out next time. So many companies and each have a dozen variations. :?

Fodera 45-130 on all the 5'ers for the last 10+ years. I find they are very even across the range and are consistent set to set with really long life.

I tried a set of Ti Flats on the RW jazz for a while but ended up going back to Fodera round wounds

Its what works for me!

D'Addario 'Pro-Steels' for me.
I favour the Medium gauge as the D & G strings are heavier (70 & 50) which help give more body and substance to those 2 strings.
I find with my Spector the standard gauge D & G strings (65 & 45) disappear in the mix.
The Pro-Steels feel good under the fingers and last extremely well. Nice even frequency response and they stay nice and bright for a long time.
I've been using them for maybe 5 - 6 years now. Have strayed a couple of times when I couldn't get them and needed strings right then, but always come back to them as I'm always disappointed with anything else....

Prior to the Pro-Steels, my first choice used to be DR Hi-Beams. Used them for years and years on my Soundgear, and they were fantastic (but bloody expensive!)

i keep coming back to d'addario Nickel XL's, EXL220 for both the ida and the east, 40-60-75-95-125...ive tried the NYXL's a few times on both and i find that the e string each time has died in the ass before the rest of the set and im not too fond of the higher tension, love that rubbery feel
