Hi all,
I'm Thom, originally from Berry on the South Coast of NSW, currently located in Sydney. I'm 30, started playing classical guitar at 5 and brass at 11, didn't really discover rock and roll until my mid-late teens when I bought my first electric guitar, but was always drawn to the bass - I didn't get my first one until I was 25 or 26, but it has since become my preferred instrument.
I currently rock a Thumb Bolt 6 and an FNA Jazzman 4 and more pedals than any one person can hope to make use of, but I'm on the hunt for my first fretless. I also recently acquired a Chapman Stick which is a whole new kettle of fish - getting there slowly!
Over the last decade or so I've been in bands ranging from folk to indie to ska, and currently play lead guitar in a doom metal band called Amammoth. Would love to play a show with other OBF cats on the bill!

Hi - my name is Demian, otherwise known as FattyBoomBatty (yes another fat bass player)

I learned a bit of guitar in high school and joined a band in my early 20s playing bass. I had no formal skill or training but have been blessed with a sense of rhythm and a good ear so played everything by ear. Gave it a go as a pro for about 5 years but became so aggravate by everything I quit.

Fast forward 20 years and I've decided I want to play music again. I was able to pick up a bass I always wanted - an Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV for a decent price and trying to start learning some formal skills. I've signed up to StudyBass and am working through the lessons there.

I have a post under the Luthier section and reckon I should make an intro before soliciting advice so throught I would say hi

Cheers
FBB

Hey gang,

Nick here - as the name suggests, i'm with Reverb.com, running their Australian operation. No interest in spamming or anything, just keen to participate in the community!

My main bass is a '78 Travis Bean TB2000, because obviously I love pain - it weighs 16kg in it's case! The things we do for sound, eh? I use an AMP BH420 as my main amp (the predecessor to the Thunderfunk range), with a Melbourne-made Blacktone 2x15 (w/ NOS Lorantz 15" speakers, also made in Melbourne!) All that said, i'm a very average player - but at least my average playing sounds good, I spose?

I play through a Glock Bass Art pre into a Demeter tube amp. My wrong notes sound so good I play them in preference to the proper ones. :rollno:

I think you have my unicorn on the US web site. 1966 LPB Jazz. If you tell me it is a march build I am in real trouble and they'll be a fire sale shortly after.

Hey Everyone

My name is Edwin, I'm in my mid 20s and from Sydney. Been checking OBF out for a while now and thought why not join haha.

I started playing piano (classical) from a young age until my teens when I decided to pick up the guitar and teach myself how to play. During high school I also taught myself drums and played drums for my first ever band because no one else wanted to. Whilst at Uni, the bass player of my uncle's band left and I took the opportunity to fill the role. Since then I've only been playing bass (at gigs) and I love it!!!

Hope to learn from this community and share my experiences. Also would like to make some new friends along the way.

Edwin

Welcome to OzBass Frank :)

Your English is perfectly understandable, better than my German hehe

There are a lot of very knowledgable luthiers and experienced bassists here so feel free to seek help, that's what we are about.

Oh, and we, OK I, love lots of pics of people's gear, so don't be shy to show us yours.

Hallo, Frank,

Michael
