Ads on OzBass??

Post by Soong » 04 Feb 2017, 11:16

May I ask Phil, how is the advertising sourced on this forum? I've seen some questionable things on here.

Banner ads on the top of the forum? Looks like it's just whatever is your personal browsing history.

I.e if I'm searching coffee machines/vacuums I would get good guys or Harvey Norman ads. Or if I'm searching on gear, I get lots of ads from bass related/gear sites. Mileage may vary.... but I think that's the jist of it

When I was looking at engagement rings the ads lasted for about 12 months. Cars lasted quite a while too. I can tell when my wife has been using the computer, clothes, shoes etc. If you regularly clean your browser cache and log out of gmail/google and Facebook etc regularly they tend to be more random.

You can add an extension to your browser called "Adblock" and then you don't see any.

+1 for Adblock, I wouldn't use a computer now without it.

I wonder if using an ad blocker on OBF reduces the revenue that is used to help maintain it?

They're google ads, indeed you'll get stuff related to your search history. The revenu from the ads pretty much pays for the webhost costs but I won't hate you if you get an adblocker :D

If there's particular ads you don't like click the 'i' on the banner and I believe you have options there to block the advertiser.
