Re: StingRay 40th Anniversary Old Smoothie.

Obsidion12 , I think the classic Rays sound good, and I also owned a stingray 5 that didnt sound great . It wasnt till I got a 5 string of better quality that I realised I was going to have to do something about B string muting at times . . The Stingray5 had such a dead B string, that it never rang ...

Re: Setup in Sydney

Matt sounds like the man, to me.
I was going to say that you could stick it on a plek machine at sydney guitar setups.
But that didnt have the word Matt in it ,
so my vote is for Matt as well . . .

Review of modified bass pedal available from local amp maker.

There's an aust guy on ebay that is modifying and selling Boss Bass Overdrive pedals - ODB3. he also makes and sells his own hand wired valve amps And it was the valve amp building and general circuitry and component knowledge required for it, that got me over the line on this deal I mean, lets face...

Re: My Yamaha sounds better than my Spector

pjm - (just between you and me) It was a 1998 Fodera Victor Wooten Classic, signed on the back of the head stock by Victor . I paid US $3750 for it and I think I saw last year they announced they were going to make another 15 special tribute vic wooten classics and they were (I think ) US$12,000, or...

Re: StingRay 40th Anniversary Old Smoothie.

elongated magnets is exactly how i would describe them , so yes , I agree. . its worth a listen . . at least its an attempt to make that anniversary model a little individual, instead of just making them . . . RED or flamed or sparkly or whatever. . . its more than cosmetic.

Re: My Yamaha sounds better than my Spector

I am literally too embarrassed to disclose the details of a perfectly good bass that I sent back (overseas), after playing it and doing half a gig with it, and deciding that the rear j pickup was so close to the bridge that I wasnt comfortable playing in that postion with the string tension being as...

Re: StingRay 40th Anniversary Old Smoothie.

well, the first thing I would like to know about this Anniversary bss' pickup , is - do the pole pieces protrude from the rear of the pickup significantly, as the original standard pickup did, when it was first released in June '76? . . . . I know I shouldnt do this , but I'm gonna rip the band -aid...

I put the media player onto a large, constructive playlist and played over/along/improv for a couple of hours . . nothing too strenuous , but really got the brain and fingers in sync now . . . and its only 9.15 AM . . lol . . after a break , I'll start to ramp it up with some slap drills and i'll tr...

Re: Could a Stingray 4H acheive this tone (warning...Kiss content!)?

no problem . . but an EB Stingray with an Ash Body (not poplar) is ideally suited to this . . with some eq tweaking (as was done on this tune), and it should get very close , if not nail it. . I guess any other quality bass that has the MM style pickup has a good chance , as this is at the heart of ...
