Re: The World Solar Challenge...

Its great. Especially love camping in the desert. Meeting people from all over the world is pretty cool too.

I do a bit of media stuff for the team (cuz I'm the smart-arse muso, apparently!), and there's rumours of a spot on sunrise on fri, so I may get my mug on telly...

ROB KIDD Custom 7-string.

OK, here is a bass I made 5 or 6 years ago. Its the 3rd 7-string I've made. I made it to see just how far I could push the ergonomics of such an instrument. I had played several 7 and 6string basses in shops that were pretty unwieldy to play and I also wanted a bass that stays in the same position r...

ROB KIDD Custom 5-string Jazz...ish

Here's a bass I made for myself about 4 years ago. Seen lots of gigs, and a few sessions, but in excellent condition. Hipshot ultra lights, carbon fibre reinforced victorian ash neck, rock maple fretboard, bone nut, stainless steel dual action trussrod, Nordstrand triple coil alnico pickup (re-house...

ROB KIDD custom 5-string, sold.

Well here's an old bass of mine that I made in the late 90's. Only about the 6th or 7th bass I ever made! It was my main player for years, then was in semi-retirement as a tester for my preamp designs. A few years ago I stripped the finish and put a hand rubbed polyurethane finish on her. Gotoh mach...

Re: The World Solar Challenge...

yeah there's not a lot of room in there - and I'm 6 foot! I'm only the spare driver though - our two main drivers are a bit smaller than me... I'll certainly drive a few stints on the race though, and plenty of laps at hidden valley for testing etc. 120 kgs without battery. 21kg of lithium polymer r...

Re: Rob Kidd custom 4-string, NEW INFO, SOUNDS, PRICE!

https://i.minus.com/iy8pHsXEzKCe4.JPG the fill is only about 2mm, but I wish now that i had tracked down the paint again and filled it more invisibly... anyway, it's a cyanoacrylate (aka super glue) drop fill. - clean/wash the area with shellite - spritz with accelerator (a super glue catylist) - a...

Re: Should I sell my Ensoniq ASR-10

wow. a blast from the past! this was the first sampler i used at uni back in the 90's. we had the rack version with 2meg(!!!) of sample ram and scsi port add on... I remember doing tracks, then going through the instruments, deleting the unused samples and resaving them to save on ram! then the k200...

Re: Building a Composite 2x12 cab for Evan.

hmm... interesting. I put an eminence light weight 15 in my old EV TL cab a few years ago. (It only needed minor adjustments to the ports and it sounds great BTW) Its now 18kg. Not bad for a 300W single 15 cab. Its made of good old chipboard with integral port, heavy handles, steel grill... Had to l...

Re: Slowlearner's bass build - Router finishing bit Qus?

2 inch long bit in a hand held... you're game (aka crazy!) a router table is very easy to build. I used a homemade mdf one for years. You just have to remember that the bit is spinning in the opposite direction. (I had a big arrow in red nikko pen to remind me too!) Real spindle moulders have two he...

Re: Building a Composite 2x12 cab for Evan.

Great job! I can attest to the strength and lightness of composites- in a week or so, I'll be driving an electric/solar race car from darwin to adelaide in the world solar challenge. our vehicle is only 140kg - including battery! We do all the fab in house and I have a bit of experience doing layups...
