Re: Graphite Necks for the Average Joe

Moses Graphite sells graphite necks that you can retrofit, but they're not exactly cheap ... Site says US$420 for a standard 4-string neck ... I have seen them pop up second-hand from time to time on TB though

Re: Synth keyboard for bass?

Mr Mow's selling an Arturia Microbrute in the 'other instruments' classifieds ... I'm tempted for myself, but can't justify it right now. They do look fun though

Re: Micro Bass Thread

There was a TB thread on these beasties recently: http://www.meridianguitars.com/vimana/

18 inch scale, 6-string tuned EADGCF (standard low E, not piccolo). Gotta say, I like the look of it. Demo vid doesn't really show much - would be cool to see what else it can do, but I dig it.

Re: Yamaha BB series.....what's the deal?

There's a burst BB1024x in a local shop up here in Cairns - only one I've seen in the flesh. Great bass, but without the B-string, not my cup of tea. Can't remember the price on it, sorry. The shop's Pacific Music if you're interested in chasing it up. Link: http://www.pacificmusic.com.au/ Shipping ...

Re: Newbie Questions

Blocks may provide a better visual reference than dots, especially if they contrast with the fingerboard. They can help other people who are jamming with you to see more easily what key you're in. Pretty sure that's just a consequence though, not the intended function - I agree with Mark that it's r...

Re: Bass Maintenance

I've seen Dan Erlewine's book The Guitar Player Repair Guide recommended a few times - haven't got it myself, but it looks like a good resource. https://booko.com.au/9780879309213/The-Guitar-Player-Repair-Guide I'll second the vote above to get a cheapie to experiment with, but a book like this'll b...

Re: What do we think of this Bass of the Week?

I couldn't see myself playing it, but I dig that there are people out there making things that push the boundaries. As Frank Zappa said, without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.

Re: Bass educational books, best place to buy in Oz

I find https://booko.com.au/ really useful for online book (& DVD) purchases - gives a rundown of all the online retailers (local and international) selling a particular item and their shipping charges, with direct links to each retailer's store.

Worth checking out.

Re: NBD Neptune Bongo

I'm not selling it back to you, Dan :-) Seriously, jc, the bongo is an awesome rock bass. Heaps of grunt, and a lot of versatility in the preamp. Grab the pick, dial in a smidge of OD and you're in ballsy, grindy rock heaven ... Once you strap it on and dig in, you won't give the headstock a second ...

Re: Newbie Questions

The speaker size question is one that people argue about a lot. I think the size can have an effect, but so many other factors come into play that are far more important in affecting the sound of an amp / cabinet. At this stage, I wouldn't be worrying too much about different sized speakers in terms...

Re: Newbie Questions

I'm a fan of the Roland bass cubes and use a microcube RX for practising and low-volume jams (although it is surprisingly loud for a little box). Battery option is great as it makes it very portable - get a lot of life out of 6 AA batteries. Lots of great features with aux input, headphone out (6mm ...
