Re: Talk to me about Double Bass

Thanks for the advice fellaz I'm getting there, straining mainly just when I'm trying to play octave's a lot for extended periods with a high action and high tension. Once I get a proper setup (strings incoming) I'm sure things will settle down a bit. I'm still 'feeling out' a new instrument (to me)...

Re: Is there a bass overdrive that can go...

So far the Solid Gold FX Beta Superdrive II has been one of the best overdrives I've had for that tubey, fat drive sound but I wish it could go just a bit lighter. Maybe if it had a blend it could work... I think you just answered your own question there bud. There's plenty of small blend pe...

Re: Talk to me about Double Bass

P.s. you shouldn't be getting wrist strain with the bow. What sort is it? German or French? Cheers. Yeah it's my left hand, not my bow hand - I'm trying to get used to the big thick neck, it's taking me a while. Using different muscles than playing a 6 banger. My main axe's are a Rick 4003 & Maton ...

Re: Guitar sound with pedals

looking to create a rhythm guitar sound to fill out bits in songs and generally muck around. I've tried to do this, whilst retaining my own bass tone, quite a few times over the years. Which begs the question; How much additional gear do you want to carry around for a rehearsal/gig/whatever? My exp...

Re: Talk to me about Double Bass

I bought a bow, cos curious and that. Yeah it's funny playing the theme to the Godfather for sure. I tried playing a few full on rock songs too, it's a blast! I'm getting wrist strain like never before, especially playing up at thumb position with a bow. Man this is hard, but so much fun. And I've r...

Re: Post your Effects setup! (boards, racks, doowhackeys)

..... once you dial in the the Xero's sweet spot, but then my clean signal is nowhere near strong enough to trigger the Xero's envelope at that setting. Yeah I always found the Xero a little difficult to trigger with my setup. I run a Super Symmetry at the start of my board to set my "unity" volume...

They are fairly expensive though.
It depends. With Shipitto specifically, I've found that as long as the place you buy from has free post within the USA, posting from Shipitto in LAX can often be cheaper than posting from the original point of purchase.

Re: Talk to me about Double Bass

Ha ha - yeah I ended up buying a set of Anima's too. :D :rolf: yolo From what I read recently on the web, they re-designed the G-string and have worked on their durability. We'll have to talk optimal Anima string action/heights :hmm How high do you like 'em slowlearner? I ended up grabbing one...

Re: Compressor Pedals?

I own a Darkglass Super Symmetry & Empress. I like the SS for bass, it imparts a slightly dark flavour cutting some of the higher treble content. I use a Rick 4003 as my main, so with the tone pots all the way open it keeps it all under control. With a regular 6-banger geetar, it gives a nice smooth...

Re: Post your Effects setup! (boards, racks, doowhackeys)

I spent 2017 researching and spending way too much on pedals ..... https://imgur.com/npxJbX1 Holy cowbells! That is some serious IE love right there. I have a Xero dlx (the older one footswitch one) and Oxide. Great pedals, but I'd kick the Xero if I could get a Moog LPF in a smaller enclosure (Bri...

Re: Talk to me about Double Bass

Thanks guys The setup HAS to be done with the strings you're intending to use. Looser strings need a higher action, so if you're going to try cheap nylons then now's the time. LOL, yeah the thought had crossed my mind. ;) I'm gonna book it in for a setup once I make my mind up, but I think I'll ask ...

Re: Talk to me about Double Bass

Thanks again Vin. Buzzing problem sorted, blisters gained. Looking at the strings and comparing with photo's online, I *think* I've identified them. Could be D'Addario Helicore Hybrids, but I can't identify whether they're the heavy or mediums. Ever try these? I kinda like their tone acoustically (w...
