Re: the MOVIE REVIEW thread

Went with the family to see "A Wrinkle In Time"...
Kids liked it... some interesting ideas... but overall, not very well done, IMO....

Script was weak, acting was weaker...

Re: Guess this bass....

It's a jazz bass with flats favouring the neck pickup and the tone rolled all the way off through a Fender 300W tube amp.
Double tracked with a DI re-amped through an Ampeg B15 flip top set flat and mixed in with a boost of 6dB and 250Hz.

(Ignore all description after the first 17 words... :D)

Re: Introduce Yourself

Welcome Dave, and yes, we are MUCH friendlier than TB. Lots of wise heads on here too, in terms of technique, recording, theory, playing live, luthery, effects building. Don't be afraid to ask for advice :) Good references on random things like politics, cricket, electrical engineering, and ice cre...

Re: Fender Starcaster bass

I love the sound of 2-pickup shorties through a tube amp. I've never heard a Starcaster played before, but if it is anything like the other 30" basses I've heard and played (an Ibanez EB3 copy), it'll sound good

Re: Introduce Yourself

Welcome midlifecrisis Dave! As you have found out, you're never too old to have GAS... And for a "newbie" that setup is a bit beyond "modest", except for the obvious fact that you have had some serious GAS attacks already. Of your gear listed, I'm personally GAS'd by your CIJ PJ "Lyte"... yes! ... W...

Re: Recommend a good multi-guitar stand

^speaking of guitar stands and church pews... we had one of those 3-guitar stands at church... guitars hung from 3 sides... it was possessed by demons!!!! It fell over with my Yamaha electric guitar hanging from it and drove the tone knob through the pickguard! Cursed thing! I took it, performed an ...

Re: Neil Finn to join Fleetwood Mac

I heard this today... They fired Lindsey Buckingham...

Mike Campbell, former Heartbreaker guitarist is also joining up. He's a fantastic talent and will fit in quite well.

Re: Tone cap/wiring options - need more dub!

As an electrical engineer not obsessed with capacitance measurements (so much), I AM obsessed with circuit diagram. I need a "This thread is useless without a schematic" emoji  Personally, for me... I'd employ a good outboard EQ. I like active basses and like to feed as much information out of ...

Re: Political Coverage By the Media in Our Country - PART TWO

^isn't the new GST for imports under $1K laws a bit protectionist? This is also beginning to start repercussions from other countries about imposing their own rules about items coming from Australia... Yes it would be, if it ever comes into effect. That is being driven by donors to the Liberal Part...

Re: Band too loud

1) Volume is EVERYONE'S responsibility.
2) If you practice loud you will gig loud. If you practice soft, you will gig soft.
3) You can do/try everything else, but there is no substitute for #1 and #2.

Re: Health Goals for 2018

I should put my ex-wife's progress on here. She wasted no time getting to work on her break-up body. Which is ironic because we used to fight because she thought my no-sugar stance was too restrictive - the diet she's on now is MUCH stricter :) Years ago, when my brother went through a divorce, he ...

Re: NBD: Classic Build #001

I see a lot of problems with this bass Ivan...

The biggest one being that you didn't build a twin for ME!

Well done! That thing is HAWT!

I think I may need to move to Melbourne just to make myself a bass (or 3 :) )
