Re: Future Builds - Kinda Not Random

OK, one more as a teaser. This is the amboyna burl with a little bit of methylated spirits to give an indication of what the final top would look like. Only the central area was wiped:

Amazing, really.

Michael

Re: Future Builds - Kinda Not Random

They all look terrific  I have some stuff on it's way from there aswell, not really sure why  The freight cost is a bit of a killer though. In my case it basically doubled the cost of the order. I know why, Ivan, because you're hooked ;) . I normally order 4-5 items and choose the s...

Re: Future Builds - Kinda Not Random

That looks amazing Michael. Regarding the grain enhancing, have you thought about trying the Feast & Watson tint method and then applying the timbermate to level things off? Just a thought. I had entertained the thought, Ivan, but ultimately I get a very similar contrast just with the TimberMate wh...

Hi Davin,

Interested to hear of any real-world experiences, i.e. gig with the bass. Comfy to play? Sound as it should be? Let us know.

Michael

Re: Future Builds - Kinda Not Random

More sanding, and a fair bit of wire brush action later. It doesn't look all that different to before but believe me, the grain grooves are pretty prominent. https://www.flickr.com/photos/94660385@N02/41685549251/in/dateposted-public/ And here with a little methylated spirits: https://www.flickr.com...

Re: Future Builds - Kinda Not Random

No pics. Expert at using push-in threaded inserts now. Did some retro-fitting of those on the earlier builds that used wood screws for the electronics cover - required some creativity because the cavity routing didn't quite allow for that (not to worry - the latest iteration is completely compatible...

I’ll help you out. But I’m going to have to look up Kingsville because it doesn’t ring a bell.
Just “next door” to Yarraville, Blaine.

Re: WTB 5 pot preamp for my bass

Funny Blaine should mention Noll. I just ordered a 4 band (bass, low mids, high mids, treble) Noll with a stacked vol (p/p active/passive) and pickup blend for $140 (US) for my first build which had a Glockenklang in it and is currently empty. Looks like good value to me (the Noll pres get very good...

I had the same radius accident as you. Ruined a perfectly good ebony board doing it too... check that tape sticks people!
One of those things ... .

Started hand-sanding option 8 and while it won’t be a 5 minute job I might get it done in 30 😉. Definitely easier on the wood.

Re: Future Builds - Kinda Not Random

Good to see Blaine in the workshop today finished the super-secret project. Bad news first: the wenge board #7 is toast for two reasons: 1) The nut end of the board came unstuck while radiusing with the router, and I didn't notice it - the board is now significantly thinner at that end, plus there's...
