Is this the final blue thing, or something new and mysterious? MOre teasers of the latter.
No, nothing new, just the Manta YOLO edition ;) .

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

All this mystery is just going to see more people asking you to take pictures. I have pics, Bruce - I take pics along the way for my records - this time I just want to wait until it's fully finished. Unless you'd be happy with a teaser black-and white version (I've done that before ;) ). Regards, M...

Re: slashin_velvet's 1st full build

I'm using a template router bit with a bearing, unfortunately it was the template slippibg which caused the issues. It's relatively small, and I'll live with it if the filling doesn't work Right. Pete (a.k.a. sneakyjak) brought to my attention template bits with a very shallow depth which means onc...

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

Ivan dropped in for a coffee and a chat earlier today. He didn’t mind what he saw (encouraging) but you’ll all have to wait until the whole bass is finished - sorry.

Michael

Re: slashin_velvet's 1st full build

Well I had a boo boo today routing the pickups. Got them done, measured the depth, but when I took off the template I realised once I put in foam and allowed for the pickup wire it would probably end up sitting high. I put the template back on (both time using the super glue and masking tape trick)...

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

Follow-up on this whole saga. I had to re-sand the neck anyway, and those little steps disappeared completely with a very light 320 application, followed by 600. I then immediately went ahead with the dye, and just applied the first coat of the oil-wax finish I use. Looks great, very happy with how ...

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

How did previous multi-piece necks go? Which of the titebond variants did you use? B> Hi Bruce, Davin, See, that's what happens when you show what ACTUALLY happens in real builds at home. Previous builds - no issue. I generally finish the neck and seal it straight away (pretty much, anyway). I have...

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

Just put in then Luminlay spots and noticed this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/94660385@N02/26557378888/in/dateposted-public/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/94660385@N02/26557377468/in/dateposted-public/ This was a perfectly flush surface (sanded to 320) and there is an obvious joint creep happening...

Re: VW Golf Gti

Had a Renault Megane wagon (1.5 turbo diesel) GT line. Very roomy, super-economical and FUN to drive (has the sport suspension). My son’s driving that now. Very happy with my MX-5 - can fit one BA12-3 cab and a couple of basses on the passenger side, and amp and pedal board in the boot. Normally tho...

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

OK, just received my Luminlay sticks so I can finish the neck from that point of view. I have made a decision regarding the finish - hang tight, all will be revealed. Here are the scale drawings of the next couple of projects. First off a "Q" Special with 24 frets - obviously the body only. Should b...

Re: Mid-price 5 string P/PJ options

Looks like I've got my path... I won a cheap MIM 5 string jazz on ebay last night. I'll be heading to Melbourne early March and planning to stop in at MSGM for a few hours, so I'll discuss/do routing under the pick guard and cutting a new guard with a reverse p mount. All (cosmetically) reversible ...

Re: MTD USA Daniel Sing Custom 534

Roger Sadowsky is going to cry when he finds out you are cheating on him :) I just can't be one bass guy! :p Nice top, Daniel. Does it qualify as a "10" top? Body timber? Natural finish? Little confused, couldn't find a "534" - is this a 34" version of the 535? Any options? And what's the expected ...

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

Still agonising over the final finish for the Manta, and yet plans for the next two builds are crystallising nicely. Next up will be a Q version with a twist. Body already glued up (2 piece northern ash), spalted maple top, all natural. 5 string, 35" with 24 frets (maple neck, probably maple board) ...
