"carbon fibre" - well, carbon is organic so we better quarantine that ;)

Re: >1K bass import via Thomann and Customs/GST??

I mentioned this before in another post about importation but I not only got hit with GST, I got hit with a fumigation AND quarantine charge as some of the bass wood (most likely the wenge fingerboard and the wooden battery compartment cover) freaked the quarantine staff out even though there was a...

Great looking work and interesting designs you have going there. That top is going to look amazing when finished too!

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

That looks pretty good. I'm going to try it on an offcut and see if I can get a similar result. Glad you like what I'm doing, Ivan ;) . It's an improvement on Kermit but mostly in the end parts (which get very clogged with sanding dust but the wire brush took care of that). Not a major improvement ...

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

Very interested in seeing how that ebony filler turns out :yep Also....I saw the red bass body today. Looking really good  Happy - much more uniform than previous attempts but might need a couple of re-applications in some spots, and a little more sanding in others. Always a fine balance b...

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

Final quick sanding session, then a moderate intensity treatment of the northern ash part with a wire brush. Applied the ebony filler initially with a little dilution to give it a chance to get into the grain, then added a second more paste-like layer, pushing down hard. http://i1330.photobucket.com...

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

Next one (#09): Kermit-type 5 string with a difference. Walnut body, maple contrast layer and indian rosewood top. Maple neck and board, and Seymour Duncan MM pickup and pre (just purchased from Chris - thank you). Should be an interesting and relaxed build after all this spalt, ash and wenge. http:...

Re: Build 06

Wow, able to check it out in person today, and it's a stunner. Works beautifully with the maple neck and board (and it's not quite as curvy in real life - somewhat curvy, I admit - it's a perspective thing: http://i1330.photobucket.com/albums/w567/drbass/IMG_3615_zpsug5g1zpx.jpg http://i1330.photobu...

Time for an update. Re: Solid Wood Pickguard Sheets.. Where from ?

I just made a 3 mm thick electronics cover from a left-over piece of my spalted maple top at the MSOGM using the thickness sander. Not sure if that helps but maybe contact David Searle directly and ask if that's something that could be done there. I mean, a pick guard is part of some guitars and bas...

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

Put in some elbow grease and things are getting there. Neck is almost done - the profile is close, and it's still a little "uneven". Fingerboard needs a little more attention at the body end, it's a little too high (probably 0.5 - 1 mm) so sanding sanding sanding. Here's the neck-body tran...
