Re: Bass Of The Week - March 2017

No conspiracy here, I submitted pics and a short description. Never notified. Bit puzzled as well since the link (when pasted in a Facebook window) shows an "403" error.

Anyway, whatever ... .

Michael

Bass Of The Week - March 2017

Ha, Just found this little thing: apparently Kermit was deemed worthy of the BestBassGear Bass of the Week in March 2017: https://www.bestbassgear.com/ebass/bass-of-the-week/bass-of-the-week-michael-emmerling-kermit.html Never even knew about this, no notification whatsoever. Mind you, no comments s...

Re: First Commission - A Slightly Different Blonde

Loving the new photos, and I can't wait to see what's next! Thanks, guys, much appreciated. And I have no idea, Nick. I have started on a neck and body for a fretless Manta (zebrano top) but half screwed the neck so not sure what I'll do with that. Other than that no immediate plans, no further int...

Are the threaded inserts you mention from Bunnings or from a specialised store?
Several options, I'll send you details later.

NIIIICE!!! Love it!
The black ring around the luminlay dots really suits the accentuated black grain.
What are the specs on this one? 34" or 35"? Looks like a narrower string spacing too?
Thank you, Paul,

Details in the Commercial section.

Michael

Re: First Commission - A Slightly Different Blonde

Dude, when do you sleep? Seriously. Germany last week, new build finished this week. Whatever drugs you're on, I want some. :) Not quite like that, Pete - this one's been "festering" for a while, I just managed to put the finishing touches on in the last couple of weeks. No builds going at the mome...

Re: First Commission - A Slightly Different Blonde

Hmmm. I actually don't mind a little more bowing on the bass side of the neck, and a little less (i.e. straighter neck) on the treble side (but of course the opposite is not great) to give the thicker strings a little more room to vibrate. All my headstocks are angled as well so I don't have to use ...

Re: Build #12 - 6 string fretless (warning; crazy content)

Out of interest and I don’t know why Jens the luthier I’ve been building my acoustic in his workshop only uses epoxy for glueing fretboards. I’ll ask and find out why he prefers that over yellow glue if you’re interested The "yellow glue" introduces moisture since it's water-based which may give is...

Re: Polaris Basses by Dr. Bass

Edit: updated proper photos!! Some of this has already been posted in the "Basses" forum. This post has a little more detail. Finally finished my first commission build. Customer is a drummer I play with a fair bit who started dabbling in bass and liked my builds (both visually and sonically). He as...

Re: First Commission - A Slightly Different Blonde

Michael, from what I understand about it, there are some claims about benefits of the reverse headstock in terms of string tension, but do you actually find that you notice effects of this? I'm asking because you're building them and I'm betting you may have noticed something as you've gone about c...

First Commission - A Slightly Different Blonde

Edit: updated photos!!! Not my NBD but someone else's. Wasn't quite sure where to post this but this forum seemed to be as good as any. Will write more detailed notes in the "Commercial" forum at some stage. Finally finished my first commission build. Customer is a drummer I play with a fair bit who...

Re: Build #12 - 6 string fretless (warning; crazy content)

There you go, Pete, that wasn’t so bad, right? ;)

Looks good to me. Stating the obvious: looks like there might be some epoxy on the neck - you will have to use epoxy to glue the finger/fretboard if that’s the case.

Re: Sneaky's random builds log

You are a better man than I’ll ever be, Pete. Gloss only if ABSOLUTELY requested ... Totally worth it when you are finished. Once I’ve figured out the most efficient method that works for me I’ll definitely share Not saying it doesn’t look spectacular, Pete, just not quite as COO as you ;) . Regard...

Re: Sneaky's random builds log

That looks nothing short of spectacular Pete. The shine on the ziricote back and sides.....someone pass me the shades  Thanks ... Jens asked me yesterday if I would ever do high gloss again after how much effort has gone into it. I’ve been working on the finish a hour or two a night for two w...
