Re: WTB - cab freq range down to 30hz

I've looked at Lorantz parameters a lot over the years, and I'd be surprised if SGR did a design that actually achieved an f3 of 40hz or better in a reasonable sized cab. Sad to say, I've found Eminence have some drivers with better-suited parameters for that.

Re: WTB - cab freq range down to 30hz

Ah yes - that makes the point that neo-type speakers generally don't seem to have parameters that lend themselves to achieving true -3dB at 30Hz or less. It is completely possible to get 99dB, f3=30Hz, 8ohm, 650W thermal, but using Ferrite magnet - its an Eminence Sigma Pro 18A-2 in a 350L(!) box. I...

Re: WTB - cab freq range down to 30hz

can't produce those frequencies above 100dB it will not be very useful. Not sure I follow you. Things like '100dB' are usually used to specify a sound intensity corresponding to a test condition including 1W @ 1m. So across the reproducing range of a speaker the 'average' level will be 100dB (say)....

Re: WTB - cab freq range down to 30hz

Yes 28Hz has -10dB
http://www.ampeg.com/products/classic/svt410hlf/
The -3dB is the standard to compare low frequencies, and the SVT-410HLF is -3dB at 48Hz. So its not bad, but it is possible to go cleanly lower with other drivers.

Re: WTB - cab freq range down to 30hz

Looks like about half their range lists as B&C drivers - the rest I couldn't see a specific name.

Re: WTB - cab freq range down to 30hz

They'll never tell you. Too true - I've just been going through some Thiele-Smalls for the B&C range, as used in the Schroeders - very underwhelming. Nothing special about how low they can go, but the power handlings are very good. The neos (like neos) fit a smaller cab for just a bit worse f3 than...

Re: WTB - cab freq range down to 30hz

I've built a number of boxes over the years using Thiele-Small parameters, and I'm still learning a thing or two. I can say: - you may only need a cab with -3dB of 35Hz rather than 30Hz; the extra is typically "made up" by the room you are in, to give an effective response at 30Hz - it is not correc...

Re: Can a faulty lead "Scream"?

so you reckon preamp? So good 'ol process of elimination says not the lead. To the preamp: yes - you can go looking with magnifying glass and bright light - amazing what you see when you get down to miniature level. Cracks on the board, dry joints and pad-edge discontinuities will do the oscillatio...

Re: Can a faulty lead "Scream"?

Oscillations can occur when an input (or output) has insufficient damping, ie has a much higher impedance than what it was designed for. An open lead is like an antenna - as we all know - and picks up buzzes and maybe local radio splutter. If you have partial connection - ie bad lead joint, fatigued...

our third ever show late last year. All originals
Nice smooth, kind of music - thanks for sharing.
Really clean recording for live - was it taken directly from the desk?
