Re: Custom Neck

One thing - a twisted neck is a flawed neck to begin with - who's to say it wont twist more in the future. If you were to go down that path, you could possibly take the frets out, fill the gaps with veneer, sand flat and then flip it over. Use the solid underside as the fretless side - so it has the...

Re: Custom Neck

^ And that's where somewhere like MSGM comes into play. David and Rob can teach you how to build a neck that fits the bass you have and the shape you want. Good place to start if you haven't got any experience with woodworking. They have all the tools, will know where to get the timber you want to ...

Re: Future Builds - Kinda Not Random

That amboyna is spectacular. Where is that species grown? Just looked it up myself. The plant genus is actually Pterocarpus (in the same family as peas, beans etc. - doesn't really mean much since it's a very BIG family). Most Pterocarpus species apparently are sold as "padauk" (see further up in t...

Re: NBD - My first build - The Galleon

Hi Michael, Good timing. My old band has gone on indefinate hiatus, but I'm filling in for a pop/rock band. Used it for a rehearsal a couple days ago. As I anticipated, it's just a hair on the heavy side after extended use, but I love these pickups and preamp. I leave it basically flat, but the tone...

Re: NBD - My first build - The Galleon

Heard this song today and realised I could now play it without downtuning my bass to Eb - quickly learned by ear when i got home and posted this up. I think its a setting on the video software i used to mash the recording, but all the low end notes don't really come through properly on this video wh...

Re: NBD - My first build - The Galleon

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jl62812mayq4650/VID_20180408_102714513.mp4 Heres a video of me just playing it this morning. Sound is average due to me using a small Yamaha THR amp and recording on my phone, but it gives a rough idea of the sound. I didn't really know what to play. Might put up a proper r...

Re: NBD - My first build - The Galleon

Very nice. How do you get the battery cover off? Can't see anywhere to grip? I'd never heard of Ringed Gidget. My wife said, "that's native (which I assumed), found in Central Australia". It's pretty easy to lift with a fingernail, but even easier with a pick. And you're wife is absolutely correct....

NBD - My first build - The Galleon

When i showed the singer i'm currently working with the finished result of my first ever bass build he said "it kinda reminds me of a pirate ship".....so here is "The Galleon" :p All up its been about 2 years planning and working out what I was going to actually do, but i properly started really get...

Re: slashin_velvet's 1st full build

The bass is looking really good Davin. Nice to meet you today at the bass centre too :yep Thanks Ivan - great to meet you too. What a coincidence to be in the bass centre right when you were buying a case. Well I've done nearly everything bar the setup. I needed to dowel up the bridge and shift it ...

Re: slashin_velvet's 1st full build

Love it, Davin, ace. And interesting take on the positioning of the neck screws, personal touch there. Regards, Michael Yeah, I didn't bother with the threaded inserts. Positioning made sense as it's equidistant between each screw and the neck taper follows the body shape at the back. Im hopeful th...

Re: slashin_velvet's 1st full build

Life's gotten in the way over the last few weeks. A bit of travel for work, and some late nights. The good news is I'm finishing the body so a lot of oiling and sanding. The neck is attached so I need to do fretwork and electronics and then I'm done. Hoping the Easter weekend is a productive one So...
