Re: Slap bass live - getting levels/EQ right

Ok, so finally had the gig and opened with the slap bass line. I dialled in some more mids, and used the lower attenuation value for the earplugs which change specifically the 125Hz freq point from 19dB to 15dB. I think that helped a great deal. Anyway, was a happy camper on stage.

Re: NBD - Yamaha BB735A

Ah, ok mate, should have guessed, lol! The preamp sounds great, however it's hard to assess due to the hum and earthing issues I have. I'll advise when I get it fixed. On the Dingwall PJ, how did it compare to your Yamaha tone wise? Well, that's a good question. I didn't have them side by side. Fro...

Re: Slap bass live - getting levels/EQ right

Best setting for slap? Mute button. Well, agree in so far as I also think there is way too much emphasis on slap bass and excessive noodling up the neck in just about every demo video. It's almost like someone who has skills can't stand the fact that they actually play a support role in holding dow...

Re: NBD - Yamaha BB735A

Sorry, onboard preamp. I've played the PJ 4 string Dingwall, amazing bass. The Yamaha basses are a lot of fun though.

Re: NBD - Yamaha BB735A

How are you going with this bass? How are you finding the OBP? Constantly tempted to go down the road of installing a preamp - expensive mod though and I swore I'd never mod again. I found this one below from Yamaha Guitar Development (their custom shop?). http://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-1...

Re: NBD Stingray adventures

My '81 Musician is like that. 5.1kg. I believe it's made of Granite Ash. that's why I own this 5" monster DSL strap (used to own the duostrap, but this seems to work) http://www.dslstraps.com.au/product/premium-straps/5-0-padded-garment-blackblack/ http://www.dslstraps.com.au/wp-content/uploa...

Re: NBD Stingray adventures

Solid colour, the year I think the guy I bought it off said it was 2015, I’ll be popping the neck soon for a good cleaning from grinty hands so I will know more soon. Solid colour. Well that kills that theory..... I had wondered if the ones with the more pronounced grain might have been lighter and...

Re: Slap bass live - getting levels/EQ right

OK thanks, so if I dial in a little boost on the B3 and mids to taste on board the soundguys should be fine? Yeah pretty much. Most decent sound guys will know how to deal with it. If the difference is horrendous, they'll usually let you know, at which point you can start on a plan B. I should clar...

Re: Slap bass live - getting levels/EQ right

:2c: In my experience really depends a number of factors: So maybe just some things to think about that you could consider before outboard gear & other options. (I don't use a compressor or pedals - just minor eq tweaks using on-board eq like 1-2 o'clock) Strings - I found older strings have more v...

Re: Slap bass live - getting levels/EQ right

so you DI out to the desk before you engage the effects in your signal chain? Also how do you do your EQ for slap on the SR5? Hell No! I want the crowd to hear everything, effects and all! I go Bass>Pedals>Amp>Cab, with the sound guy using the DI on the back of my amp. Don't worry too much about th...

Re: Slap bass live - getting levels/EQ right

A solution that does work for me: contrary to everyone else I actually like to add a little mids with my on-board pre, works like a treat with one of my builds (the red one, with Delano pickup and Nordstrand pre). Adding bottom doesn't really increase the volume (put pushes amp and cabs unnecessari...

Re: Slap bass live - getting levels/EQ right

Interesting topic. Honestly, I have found the SR5 hardest of all my basses to hear in the mix while slapping. Frustrating, because it is my easiest 5er to play slap on. This dilemma got better when I changed to my Tube Amp, as it seems to give the higher notes now girth. My favorite way to get slap...
