Re: The Free Stuff thread!!

. Free! A set of hardly used Rotosound SM77 Jazz Bass strings in their original package. Taken off my Precision bass. As new. I reckon I played one rehearsal with them. That's it! Buyer pays postage. https://images.reverb.com/image/upload/s--3FfHHo81--/a_exif,c_limit,e_unsharp_mask:80,f_auto,fl_prog...

Re: What bass guitar sounds DON'T you like?

. Sorry to dig up a reeeaaally old thread, but I was just thinking about this the other day.... I've worked out that I (personally) simply don't like solo neck or bridge pickups on any bass. Not sure what exactly it is, but I just don't like the sound of a soloed (non-sweet spot) pickup. Neck pickup...

Always impossible to accurately evaluate without a side by side comparison, with the same player, but definitely in the ball park.

Alex James: A bit of a Blur

. I picked this one up at the Lifeline book fair for $3! Loving it so far. An indepth look at the rise (and I guess fall, later) of Blur. Not particularly well written, but still somewhat riveting, once you're into it, especially if you're a Blur fan. https://d1w7fb2mkkr3kw.cloudfront.net/assets/ima...

Richard Hell: I dreamed I was a very clean tramp.

. Quite an interesting read. I had no idea the CBGBs and Max's Kansas city "in crowd" were as close as they were. Not enough "dirt" on the Television/Verlaine aspect IMO and the book kind of cuts off all of a sudden, not unlike Kilbey's biography. Still, worth a read. https://loisaidanest.files.word...

Stones in the studio 1968

. Taken from the Jean Luc Godard film "Sympathy for the Devil". Here we have all the interesting stuff. The arty-farty bits have been culled. Brian's a mess. I've read that they allowed him to supposedly record parts for the album for the sake of the film, but hardly used a thing he had done in the ...

Naked Lunch - William Burroughs .............. NL isn't really readable in parts, I didn't like it..... I tried 30 odd years ago to read it too slave and thought exactly the same as you. A also tried reading Mein Kampf (Adolph Hitler) one time. I'd heard it mentioned so many times in war documentar...

Re: Rock/musician biographies you liked.

. A colleague told me that he took his kids up to our new local council library and found that it has been stocked entirely with brand new books. Curiosity got the better of me and I had to go for a look. To my surprise, there were a quite a few rock biographies amongst the stock. Browsing, I found ...
