Re: Live, without amps

I've played behind a guitarist who didn't use an amp and I *loved* it. When a guitarist is freed of all that "have to drive the amp at it's sweet spot" and "only way to get my sound" stuff, all manner of sensible options are possible. It was quite a while ago and I wish I could remember his gear. Go...

Re: Small lightweight combo recommendations?

I've got a Markbass CMD 121P combo which works pretty well for me. It's a super easy single handed carry and a single trip to/from the car. From what OP is saying it's way over powered. Also they're expensive. Reading that OP already has a K12. I would have called that an easy one-hander, although i...

Re: Heavier Strings for Eb Standard tuning?

Interesting thread. I think the Sadowsky Black Label Nickels work well in Eb. They are higher tension than other strings in the same gauge that I've tried so at Eb they seem to work out about "right" for me.

Re: Blue Bass Owners Show Your Bass(es)!

<SNIP> That Duesenberg suits you much better than the Sadowsky. Looks fantastic on stage  What are they like soundwise, and is it a standard 34" scale? The Sadowsky was a great bass but something about it never really clicked with me. Nothing against them, I still own one. The Duesenberg is a...

Re: Elrick Strings Now In Stock

Mike, I actually have tried the Elrick Nickels on my Roscoe that had D'darrios nickels, anyway the Elricks are similar in tension to the Sadowsky BLUE Nickels not quite as tight as the Sadowsky BLACKS and not as bright, but the Elricks seem warmer and more balanced across the lows-mids-highs. Thank...

Re: Elrick Strings Now In Stock

Hey George, have you tried the Nickels? If so, I'd be interested to know how you think they compare to the Sadowsky Black Label Bright Nickels. Both in terms of tension and sound?

Re: Compressor Pedals?

I have a Compressore. It works great. Has pretty much every control you could want in a compressor. One of the very few (possibly only?) pedal compressors with the compression done by tube (as opposed to the post compression gain stage I think). No idea how this makes it better or worse but it works...

Plug a short lead into the fx send/ return. See if any difference
this has fixed so many such problems :)
But won't fix this one, this series of Markbass doesn't have a switch in the plug.

Re: What bass guitar sounds DON'T you like?

The sound that frustrates the schnitzel out of me is that really clacky, sticky sound that always seems to happen on gear review videos. Even with headphones or a good sound system it's like they've removed the bass 50% and boosted the higher freqs. All you hear is a metric-fk-tonne of string buzz ...

Cool bass Heath, even if it's a bit of a porker at 4.6kg. Having said that, I would still love to have one. Enjoy!

Re: What bass guitar sounds DON'T you like?

sorry for digging up an ancient thread. I know a lot of people find it annoying for some reason. :) Fine by me, I missed it the first time around :) I do 90% of my gigs on a bass with one pickup (stingray) and I'm just fine with it. Other bass players like it. On the gigs where I take a bass with t...
