Re: Maton MGB4

Thanks Classic5,

I'll pull the bass out and have a look. Pretty sure I looked there, but no harm in checking again.

Re: Maton MGB4

I have one as well, but not in as good as condition. The paint was "crazing" around the top horn and some paint has since flaked off. Mind you I only paid $1100 for it, and it had just been restrung with Thomastic flats. Regarding the finish, people pay premiums for that "relic" look, so it may be w...

Maton MGB4

Just saw this at the Music Swap Shops website. Knowing there are one or two Maton enthusiasts on this site I thought it may be of some interest. Looks to be in pretty good shape overall, but there is only one pic of it though. http://www.musicswopshop.com.au/stock?search=MSS+59226 I have no ties wit...

Re: Maton JB4 Lives Again! (The Proof Is Here)

(Zombie alert!) So - who knows why the JB4 is currently out of production again? "PLEASE NOTE: This guitar is currently unavailable, stay tuned for exciting developments across the range of Maton electrics." https://maton.com.au/product/jb4 Maybe outsourcing to China? Hi, when I was in a music stor...

80s Maton JB4

Given the intrest in the past on these forums for 1980s Maton JB4's and how rarely they come up, just spotted one in Melb. It's a tad pricey imho at $1850, but you may be able to negotiate a better price. Here's the link http://www.musicswopshop.com.au/stock?search=MSS+54703 From the one pic it seem...

Re: Cole Clark Bass

Where are they being sold here? Well I got my information from KC's Rock Shop in Boronia, Victoria. They are a Cole Clark retailer as well. I wouldnt be surprised if the BassCentre in Melb stocks them given their daughter shop (accousticcentre) also sells Cole Clark accoustic guitars, but that is p...

Re: Cole Clark Bass

Any word on the price point? North of $2500, maybe south of $3000. I had a chat to a local musci shop near me that stocks Cole Cark guitars. When I enquired about the new basses, they indicated they expect to retail them somewhere in the high $2k to low $3k region. As for availability, they said th...

Same song two very different bass lines/solos

Hi all, seem to be in a bit of a Lee Ritenour phase at the moment. :) Have come across a few versions of one of his compositions called Rio Funk. Not a huge funk fan myself, however these two really impressed me, especially the different bass lines each bassist brought to the song, not to mention Le...

Re: Lee Ritenour and Tom Kennedy

I went to this gig on Saturday night and was also blown away by the performance and the venue! Which set, the 8:00pm or the 10:00pm set? I was at the 8:00pm set. Also had dinner there as well. Really nice food, tad pricy though. Ended up buying his CD, and got him to sign it. Was nice to see him ma...

Lee Ritenour and Tom Kennedy

Just saw Lee Ritenour as Birds Basement in Melb. The bassist in the line-up was Tom Kennedy, and boy was this guy good. Did a mind blowing upright bass solo, was just amazing, and was equally as good on his 6str electric, but his upright playing will stick in my mind for ages to come. As for Lee's p...

Cole Clark Bass

Hi all, not sure how well known this is, but I came across this bit of info on their website. They are building a electric bass which they hope to have released sometime in 2016. They have built some prototypes that they have taken to NAMM. Here's what they had said to me in an e-mail, reprinted wit...

Re: Late 1970s fretted JB4 at eastgate music

Yes it does look nice, but I just realised this is a re-fretted fretless. Arrgh, if only it was left fretless I may have been interested, don't have a fretless original in my arsenal. Would be interesting to compare it to the MGB4 fretless I have which is slightly smaller than my 80s fretted JB4. St...

Late 1970s fretted JB4 at eastgate music

Hi all, hope this post is not against the forum rules. I am posting this because there still seems to be interest in these bases on these forums. Came across this on Eastgate's website, a late 1970's JB4, or so they say. It's a tad too steep for my wallet, plus I already have one, plus a few of the ...

Thanks for all the replies folks. Keeping the strings at tension does sit better with me, so that's what I will do.
