Re: WTB - cab freq range down to 30hz

Look into Bag End's subwoofer sytems. The "ELF" or "Infra" stuff. Claimed response to 8Hz (not with great efficiency mind you, but a very clever set of tradeoffs).

The Australian distributor is slow to respond mind you, seeming to prefer to sell other stuff. But you might be able to pick one up.

Re: Question about wiring a PJ bass...

Yes! I have deliberately wired a tone pot to the bridge J on a JJ bass I have, so it tames the bridge when bridge is favoured and has little impact when the neck is favoured. This is because I tend to prefer the sound of the zingy treble that comes from its neck J than the bitey treble that comes of...

Re: Question about wiring a PJ bass...

What Bill said is the case (as usual!). To drop treble from the P only with little impact on the J, there are a few really odd options you could try like an inductor in series with the P; also mucking about with capacitors on just one half of the P (though I can't see how this wouldn't impact the hu...

Re: The Spamming Must Be Driving The Mods Crazy

Could we look at stopping members from making new threads unless they are supporting members? The vast majority of people here already are supporting members and the financial cost would dissuade spammers. My concern with this kind of policy is that the forum would shrink instead of grow. I join fo...

Re: Maton JB4 Lives Again! (The Proof Is Here)

When I owned one, long ago, it sang. It "just worked". Playing it felt like coming home.

Then I moved to 5-string, and I have other nice basses now. Still, I do kinda miss it.

(Zombie alert!)

So - who knows why the JB4 is currently out of production again?

Re: Electric Upright String Options

Note that the NS can take two different string lengths: the modern ones are short and finish on the front of the body just past the bridge, but to take full double bass strings, the NS bass wraps the excess length (which normally would sit between a DB's bridge and its tailpiece) around the bottom o...

The quite rare sealed version of the 24kg-or-so golight quad.

When we tested one of these for bassnerds a few years back, it was a very tidy sounding quad.

Re: cool finishing technique

I'm a fan since seeing those late 80's or early 90's "JEM" guitars by Ibanez (the Steve Vai model) where they had a fluro swirl which is now often affectionately known as "clown puke".

Re: In Ear Monitor system suggestions

For everyone except the lead singer, we're using Behringer PM1's. It requires guitarists to run 2 leads, which we cabletie together (a mic lead for ears and a guitar lead for guitar or bass). Cheap and effective, although movement is a bit trickier with the stiffer double lead than with a normal gui...

I'd want to have an emergency every day. I do remember appreciating those basses back when they were in the shops.
