It must be a magic tone mojo that only comes good for true believers :p
Dunno, I didn't know anything about them before I tried it. I was looking for a 5 string that day, didn't find one that I liked and was almost out the door when I noticed the jb4 in the window and gave it a "quick" try

When I owned one, long ago, it sang. It "just worked". Playing it felt like coming home.

...
Funny, that's exactly how I described the feeling the first time I played one.

In the shop.

Then bought it even though it didn't meet any of the criteria I thought I was looking for 😶

Re: Mid-price 5 string P/PJ options

Did anyone bid on the bb1025x? I was gonna have a go but fell asleep lol I'm still not sure which one was being referred to? There was one on ebay that was $1K but would've got to $900 with the ebay boxing day code. At the moment I'm seriously considering dual neck (fretted/fretless) options at thi...

No skull knobs for me I'm afraid - http:...

Re: Mid-price 5 string P/PJ options

@drbass thanks for that little titbit, it got me doing some more research - and there's a lot of positive information about the results with the reverse mount P. This thread in particular has some detailed user accounts: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/reverse-p-bass-p-up.323837/ @Ben B - I'm sure ...

Re: Mid-price 5 string P/PJ options

Definitely consider the yamaha Bb's, but if you aren't totally set on a pj style check out the g&l tribute L or M 2500's...very nice basses and I'm pretty sure you can pick up a new one for under $1000 Thanks Heath - those G&Ls look good. I suppose I could expand my options significantly with dual ...

Re: Mid-price 5 string P/PJ options

The squier P bass 5 is a great option ... Awesome, didn't realise there was a squier P 5 Yamaha PJs (bb series) In my opinion it really helps to have the J for a fiver to tighten up that low B Yeah, the Yamaha BBs have had my attention for a long time - I've found the model numbering a bit confusin...

Mid-price 5 string P/PJ options

Hi folks, I've dipped my toe into the 5 string world in the last 12 months or so, and decided I like it enough to try and make it stick. I've also been GASSing for a Precision style bass for a long time, so I figure I'm going to try and combine these if the right thing comes along. Trouble is, there...

Re: Betsy, the Fried Egg Bass

I've got to ask, what have you actually managed to salvage from the original poultry prototype - is just the unloaded neck?
