Bit hard to do on a motor bike? I'm guessing you have to lay it down when you are away from a garage with a stand.
On a motorbike, it's basically time to call a tow truck. There's no spare!
Doh!

Re: Fancy Neck Woods?

First Aid kit consists of a bit of superglue to hold the edges of the cut together. We're tough in the woodwork shop! No seriously it's all there and Rob runs you through all the "keep away from the sharp bits" stuff before you even get close to the tools. "touch wood" there hasn't been anything mor...

Re: Rant Thread !

Always put the spare tyre underneath the car. My dad taught me that and it saw me in good stead when the same thing happened to me a few years back. Very late at night, heading back from a rehearsal up past Hanging Rock on a back road. Holden blows a tyre, not a problem I have a spare. Take the whee...

Re: Fancy Neck Woods?

Everyone says that but it doesn't happen. Ivan "Classic5" thought the same and built a fantastic neck. David and Rob are top notch teachers, there are always other people around you who will be helpful with tips from their experience. Power tools required? Band saw (cut close to the lines you've dra...

Re: Latest Builds

Yes I'll be in for some of the day. Heading to Mildura for the weekend so can't spend too much time in the shop unfortunately. The poplar top will be sealed on Thursday evening so I'll be hole filling Friday morning. Yes it is restrained, compared to your builds, but there is a lot going on with the...

Re: Fancy Neck Woods?

Building your own isn't going to be cheaper but it's one sure way you'll get what you want and it's not all that hard.

I'm liking working with Gidgee, an aussie hardwood from up north, as finger boards. That on a QLD maple neck is making for an attractive look.

Re: Vintage Te Cup Knobs

Get the splined ones and drill out the hole to suit? Or if you're not to fussed about authenticity then change the pots below for the type of knob you can get. Pots wear out and they're not an unexpected change after 52 years.

Re: Latest Builds

Hi Pete, yes I am especially the poplar top one but it's driving me nuts with all the hole filling. Last night I did more sanding and hole filling. This time on the controls cavity cover plate. I also put the maple veneer into the lined fretless neck and put a rollover on the top of the poplar body....

Re: Who uses scrapers?

check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcKDasioEaI Note the two methods here, uses the stones for really fine burr work and just the file for rougher work. Both valid depending on what you're trying to achieve with the scraper. Example is; I wouldn't bother with a really fine burr if I am cleanin...

Re: Fancy Neck Woods?

I'll add walnut to the list. My Dingwall has a walnut neck, reinforced sure, but lovely feel and quite beautiful.
