Re: VW Golf Gti

I haven't read through all this, so sorry if this has been said. With something like your 6x10 cab, even if it fits, it will be harder to get in, assuming the car has a raised back. Unlike a wagon, where you can pivot it in more easily.

SSSoooo nice  Looking forward to seeing the finished bass.....congratulations  For a minute I thought you had purchased the wood and were going to join us budding builders......then I read the title of the thread . I had the same though. becoming a builder. Does it cost much more for...

Re: NBD 2017 Epiphone Vintage Pro Thunderbird

Looks great. Where are they making those Russell? Indonesia. I am blown away by the quality Greg. I can hear that. That's why I was wondering. My first thought was Japan, until you mentioned that it came in under the duty threshold, which ruled that out. I don't know that anybody would have predict...

Re: Stingray 3 band eq mods.

I know what a resonant filter sounds like; I'm just not hearing it with the bigger caps, for some reason. Changing the value of the mid cap to the wiper, has changed the mid control substantially. I never liked the stock freq at all. Trouble now, is too many options. I really like at least 2 of them...

Re: Steve Hunter Interview!

Wow great insight! Where can we hear this album?? Yeah the man has some serious chops and knows how to use them! He does, which is a rare thing. I recorded him twice for an album, at my original studio in Sydney. Very tasteful and a great guy. Didn't overplay once, where he certainly could have. I ...

Re: Question about 'Gain' and 'Master Volume'

Yeah, that does seem strange. Obviously, you'd normally set the gain to the desired level, where it has plenty of headroom or overdriving, depending on the amp and desired sound; and then control the overall volume with the output. [Yes, I know I'm stating the bleeding obvious here.] What do they sa...

Re: Let's See Your Basses... TWO! (Post Photobucket $)

The black one is a sandberg ida Nielsen, the burst is a fender cs 57 journeyman p bass and the white one a yamaha bbne2 Nathan east. I don't think you could have more polar opposites, they all have different pickup combos, wood combinations and construction, but they all sure are Purdy haha.. Yeah ...

Re: Let's See Your Basses... TWO! (Post Photobucket $)

Very nice. That's some interesting pickup balancing on the P there for sure! I assume it has raised pole pieces on the A, but why not the D... odd. Because that's the way Leo did it originally. :bat: I've never had an A that was weak. Usually the reverse, but obviously that wasn't the case in '57. ...

Re: Stingray 3 band eq mods.

Yes, I saw the guy was wanting it brighter. Mustn't have tweeters in his cabs. I'm not hearing (or seeing) any resonant peaks with the larger caps as the LPF, where I do with the 2.2n. Not sure why that would be? I didn't want to change the 'ray tone, just make it less clanky and thin in the ...

Re: Stingray 3 band eq mods.

Resonant peaks aren't a bad thing necessarily. A lot of eqs have the and with digital eqs, quite a few have a Q type control to vary the peak. The Wal style eq I installed in Jeremy's (NotTheFish) bass last year, is a variable low pass filter, with a second control to change how much of a resonant p...

Re: Stingray 3 band eq mods.

Hmm that's interesting. The removal of the LPF seems to introduce plenty of everything between about 7K and 13K, so no wonder it sounds scratchy. I'm liking the look of the 2.7n cap. Smoothes out 4K, which is what you wanted. But it also seems to give it some extra in the low mids at 300Hz or there...

Re: Stingray 3 band eq mods.

Haven't looked at the other thread, but just tried removing the LPF cap. Sounds awful! Completely unusable for what I want to hear. Really thin and scratchy. I've been doing some crude freq plots as I've tried different things, to compare visually, along with the listening. I've done these by playin...
