Re: Big Stingray changes by Ernie Ball

the parallel wired pickups don't have enough output to be useful without the preamp? I've read that many times on various forums over the years. But it's not true. With the controls at centre, both the 2-band and the three band have no extra gain. Even though the the coils are in parallel, the volt...

Re: Big Stingray changes by Ernie Ball

Small aside, just wondering how much of a difference people feel string through mounting makes to your tone? In my experience the difference appears to be negligible if any... Not a huge difference, but you can hear and definitely feel it. This is experience from a pair of Stingrays, that could be ...

Re: Big Stingray changes by Ernie Ball

Interesting. I guess one day they'll also include an active/passive switch with passive tone roll off. String thru body option would also be nice :2c: There have been stingray models before with string-thru. Someone will correct me, but my understanding of why they've never offered a passive switch...

Re: FS: Bergantino AE212 Drop to $900 - SOLD

Yay! Hope they enjoy the great cab it is. I had one of those 'what am I doing' moments, while plugging the Traynor in, just before Brad got here. The combination was sounding great. Brad's kids were playing with one of mine and our new puppy and didn't want to leave. We were talking about all our k...

Is this cab still for sale?
Amazingly yes. Lot of people have been keen and said they would buy it, then had to pull out of the sale. :(

Re: Is this too many amplifiers???

I think I have 20 amps. 5 are bass only, Traynor, MarkBass, GK 1001RB, TC and an old Dynacord I rebulit. The '64 Fender Bassman is great for guitar or bass and then 13 valve guitar amps and a Pignose. Seems about right, although I'm sure my studio used to be bigger than it is now.....

But which type of pcikup foam is better for tone?
I know Eddie Van Halen used to screw the pickup straight to the body on his Strat, saying it sounded better. Makes a certain amount of sense, with a one pickup instrument. Especially if there is any microphonics in the pickup.

The skateboard is cool, but I can see someone standing on the edge during a gig and launching the pedals across the stage. :hmm

Dude. This is the modern day interpretation of a king with multitudes of wives and concubines. 8| My wife used to refer to my basses and guitars, as my harem. Why did she stop? Good question. We have two daughters and she may not have wanted to explain it to them. It may have just become too close ...

Re: New studio build

The better you soundproof, the more internal acoustic treatment you need too. A lightweight structure, that lets sound through, requires minimal treatment. The sound has to go somewhere, so particularly with the low frequencies, if they can't escape, they build up inside.
