Re: Tube Amps

What's the definition of reasonable? I was going to build a all valve bass head, before I bought my Traynor YBA300. I realised the parts were going to cost more than the already built amp.

Re: TC Electronics RH450 that won't power up

I pulled mine apart, to replace a scratchy master volume pot. Possibly the most difficult thing I've ever opened - at least in recent years. They really don't want you servicing them yourself. Almost infinite number of acres in 3 or 4 different sizes. Pretty sure there was a fuse (fuses?) in there, ...

Re: It finally happened

I think I've told this story before. After we'd been married a couple of years, my wife was visiting her brother's share house and that had one of the music channels on. A Bob Marley clip came on and at the same time her brother and his mates were saying "Nice shirt:, she said "Nice Les Paul". She t...

Re: CBS era Fender, the real story

My observation, is that the basses didn't suffer as much as the guitars. With the guitars, the pickups became weaker and thinner sounding and they went to the die cast bridges, that really sucked away the tone. I think it's no surprise that the market for replacement parts took off in the '70s.

Re: CBS era Fender, the real story

Bazz, I've now read the article. The very next sentence that you didn't copy in gives it context: So John Page and Troy Lane and I, we sat down and re-wrote the criteria. Because in some ways it was too strict. Although the strict part was mainly in reference to the grain of the wood. Only ash with...

Re: CBS era Fender, the real story

Great interview. Had heard a lot of that stuff over the years, but this fleshes it out more. Some great quote too. Like in reference to the Fujigen factory, "at that point in time their factory was pretty antiquated, except you could eat off the floor".

Re: Ebay thread PART TWO - the good, bad, and ridiculous...

either the bridge or the pickups are out of alignment, look at the angle of the strings from the bridge base to the saddles lol There is actually a slot lower down in the tailpiece, that the strings are supposed to go through, that gives it a sharper angle over the saddle and puts them in line. Har...

Another crazy priced bass. Only about 3 times what they usually sell for.

Re: Neil Finn to join Fleetwood Mac

I was hoping Neil Finn would replace Stevie Nicks. He would rock that tambourine! Bahahahaha In the Classic Albums DVD for Woodface, Tim Finn talks about how out of place he was, when not up front doing the Woodface songs. He makes a joke about not wanting to be playing a Tamborine like Stevie Nick...

Re: Neil Finn to join Fleetwood Mac

Sounds like a good combination. Mike Campbell is an incredibly tasteful guitarist and Neil and Lindsay's voices aren't radically different. Huge compliment to Mr Buckingham, that they need two guys to replace him.

Re: NBD - My first build - The Galleon

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jl62812mayq4650/VID_20180408_102714513.mp4 Heres a video of me just playing it this morning. Sound is average due to me using a small Yamaha THR amp and recording on my phone, but it gives a rough idea of the sound. I didn't really know what to play. Might put up a proper ...

Re: NBD - My first build - The Galleon

Very nice. How do you get the battery cover off? Can't see anywhere to grip? I'd never heard of Ringed Gidget. My wife said, "that's native (which I assumed), found in Central Australia".
