Re: Blind test: MusicMan StingRay 2004 vs Cort GB75JH

I wonder why others can't nail the Stingray tone? All I can think, is that they don't understand what makes it sound the way it does. The pickup is unique and being wired in parallel; has a very low output. Without the preamp, it sounds pretty anaemic. The MM 'sweet spot' is essential. Anywhere else...

Re: Blind test: MusicMan StingRay 2004 vs Cort GB75JH

I own both (Cort GB5, which I believe is the previous version). Plus I have a J on my Stingray. They both sound good to me. The MM Pickups are the main difference from what I can tell. The SD pickup is brighter than the Musicman one. Are the MM pickups in the same position? It's hard to tell from t...

Re: Blind test: MusicMan StingRay 2004 vs Cort GB75JH

I think the MM is second and the Cort first. Any chance you can describe what you're hearing? The first one seems to be rounder and quite pronounced in the upper mids. The lows are also getting lost in the track. The second one is more balanced, has a fuller low end and seems slightly more aggressi...

I saw it on eBay when it sold some time ago, so that part of the story checks out. Sa...

Re: SINGLE STRING SLAP PERMUTATIONS??

Hi Aaron, welcome to OBF. We like stingrays and bacon, so you should fit in well around here. :) A couple things stand out to me (as a teacher and a player)... 1. A proper DI feed from the bass into the camera/computer will make the bass sound a lot clearer. 2. Slow down each exercise to a step by ...

Billy is a great example and I like what I'm hearing with that pedal.

Re: Any Markbass Evo 1 users/opinions?

BTW, this 'split' sound/channels thing is not really new. The guy who has been doing longer than anyone else is Billy Sheehan (Steve Via/Mr Big/Tallis). Here's his drive pedal. It's pretty good and a fair bit cheaper. I thought John Entwistle had been doing it longer and did Chris Squire do it too....

Re: [FS/FT] 1966 Fender Jazz Bass (Vintage)

Not so sure I would describe it as darker and quieter ,actually hard to put your finger on,you just know it’s not quite doing what you want.Probably thinner sounding comes close. My mate owned a studio and had a 62 ri stacker and said to me it was not right and stopped using it,he bought a standard...

Re: [FS/FT] 1966 Fender Jazz Bass (Vintage)

Yep,pre 65 j basses are hard to come by. The case looks to me to be about right imho.Vinyl binding like a Stanford 64 case.Re stackers. If you do some research and dig little deeper with people that have both you will find a slab vvt will sound nicer than a stacker, harder to find as well. The guy fr...

Re: Happy New Year !

Happy New Year from me too. I was supposed to go see the fireworks at the Gosford waterfront tonight, but couldn't go because I couldn't walk that far....... Why? Because I smashed my little toe against....... a bass cab this afternoon. I'm guessing there aren't too many people who can claim that as...

Re: Ebay thread PART TWO - the good, bad, and ridiculous...

The body shape on this is very strange. When I saw the first photo of the body I assumed that it was just taken at a skewed angle, leading to a slightly odd look. All the photos show the same odd shape though, so now I think it was faked by somebody working from a photo taken at an angle :-) I gues...
