Re: Cornell Williams - Jon Cleary Bassist

Great interview Craig, with a great player who always "plays for the song".

Love that Modulus bass. Interesting that he swapped out the pickups and pre to an Aguilar set. How does it compare soundwise to your F bass?

Re: cool finishing technique

The good folk at MSGM do indeed know about this technique. I kinda think David was hoping no one would want to go down this path :rollno:

Doesn't look too eco friendly either. But I've got to admit that it does look good.

ok so the inlay is somewhere in that blob?
That's right. The blob has now been sanded back, but it's not the result I was after which is something like the example below. So some recovery work is needed....but should be ok I hope.

Re: Classic Build #1 The whole bass and nothing but.....

looks fantastic, what's the deal about the logo inlay? How does that install work? Hey George, this is my first time ever trying a mother of pearl inlay, but basically you trace around the inlay and then carve out a cavity for the inlay to fit into. The photo's below show my "attempt", using Davids...

Re: Classic Build #1 The whole bass and nothing but.....

Quick update on progress made today. 42 degrees outside, just a cool 35 in the workshop. The head stock inlay has been seated and glued in - looks like a big blob at the moment. Currently drying overnight for sanding tomorrow. https://i.imgur.com/E6kk4iFl.jpg The battery cover has also been shape. I...

Re: Future Builds - Maybe Random

Looks great Michael. I really like the three piece neck and tilt back head stock. Would love to try something like that in future :yep

Really looking forward to seeing this one come together. That Padauk you had in the workshop on Tuesday is just beautiful.

Yes I knew you didn't have it Michael, way to big for you. And no Jeremy you can't have the Monique, Ivan has already requested I loan it to him under the same circumstances.
That's true

Re: Interview on Saltmine Repairs

A few years ago Matt generously sent me a couple of o ring washers for a machine head on a cheap Yamaha bass. There was nothing in it for him as I am interstate - it was just a considerate thing to do that I really appreciate and have not forgotten. Goes to show that it's sometimes the smallest thi...

Very happy we caught up last night. Lovely seeing that very special bass get painted and the attention to detail with the fret work. What's the next one going to be? Great to see you too Blaine......it has been a while. Terrific work on that violin too. What's next.......just want to finish this on...

Re: Classic Build #1 The whole bass and nothing but.....

As already mentioned elsewhere, VERY nice, sophisticated, classy - just like the builder. Regards, Michael Ha ha....But in all seriousness, I'm extremely pleased with how this is turning out. None of which would have come even close without the guidance, assistance and encouragement of people like ...

A bit of spray booth action last night at the Melbourne School of Guitar Making. Big thanks to David for his absolutely stunning work with the spray gun:
