Re: Compulsive timber acquisition syndrome

Is that bocote I see? Ivan, nothing to worry about. You ordered two tops, I've ordered 15 in the last year (with 5 currently on their long journey from Canada)......................... Yes, 2nd one is Bocote. I missed the last batch but just happened to spot this one by chance today. It'll make a s...

Compulsive timber acquisition syndrome

So what does this all mean? Some strange force has just drawn me to these two items. My justification for the purchase was that yeah, one day I do want to build another bass. These items are all so unique so if you see something you’re drawn to…….buy it now  (that was the logic anyway) I ma...

Re: Show yourself and your bass(es) - Part Two

Thanks, that’s a really nice compliment. Building for someone else is not something I’d consider right now, maybe something for the future though. On the flip side you could always contact the masters David Searle and Rob Pryke or the highly accomplished apprentice DrBass (Michael). Either of these ...

Re: Latest Builds

Nice work Blaine, the Uke is looking terrific and can't wait to see the mouse come together. Gee you've done a lot of work in a relatively short space of time. Thanks Ivan, I've been putting in a lot of hours there while off work, but I am getting faster as the skill level picks up. Tonight ...

NGD: That's NEW GEAR DAY!

The Phil Jones BigHead is here, wired up and ready to go. Yes - I can confirm that these are very good indeed! Easy to set up, great sound, and now I can practice in the house rather than the "dog house". Watch out as my playing skills go through the roof........aaahhh or maybe not :partydance: I al...

Re: Show yourself and your bass(es) - Part Two

I'll keep my ugly mug out of it for now......but here are two of my absolute favourite basses. Oh..and maybe the Maton and the Xotic 5'er as well. But these are the ones I'm gravitating to at the moment. Yamaha BB1024X refinished in fiesta red and the MSGM build. I based the neck dimensions of the b...

Looks so good Michael. What's the thickness of the top wood on this one? Just curious for future potential purchases.

Re: Custom Neck

Seriously just come down to MSGM and build one that suits you. Yes you can strip the board off that broken one and replace the rod but you've still got to reshape and put a new finger board on anyway. You'd be saving yourself an evenings work at best. Classic 5 started with building just a neck, kn...
