Re: Acoustic amp choice... ?

Maybe a Mesa Rosette preamp into your DG return? It should have a pretty uncoloured power section.

Re: Talk to me about Double Bass

Ooh yeah. Just strung em up then. They're comfy! The big fat D and G are easy on the fingers. Interesting difference with the Spiros. A bit darker but seem to make my bass bloom a bit more with the lower tension. Maybe it's just that I can dig in a bit more. Interestingly, the action on my bass is p...

Re: Talk to me about Double Bass

Ah dang. The shipping wasn't his fault. USPS stuffed up and lost mine as well.

.. and BTW he's out of pocket for both those orders.

Mine have landed in Australia :) … Finally

Re: Jazzy blues turnarounds

My favourite jazz turnaround is Bill Evans Interplay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6penvoKaJs Guaranteed to melt your guitarists face off: In F min: | F- | Bb-7 | F- | F7 | | Bb-7 | Bb-7 | F-7 | Ab | | G-7 | C7 | F-7 D-7 | DbMaj7 GbMaj7 | Also the intro is fun to learn on bass. Basically, instead...

Re: Help Please - how to sell antique double bass

^^ Agree. I would think that most violin shops dealing with $10k+ instruments would be treating it with the care it needs. $12k still only puts your bass in the middle of the rack in Puglisi's. Did Ben (at Puglisi) recommend anywhere else? The problem with selling it yourself is that the market for ...

Re: Live, without amps

For guitarists it definitely depends on the kind of sound they're after. The best guitar sound I've ever played with was Ross Hannaford. He'd set up with 2 x 5 watt Fender Champs on either side of the stage. It gave him a natural overdrive and compression at reasonable volume.

Re: Small lightweight combo recommendations?

I was lucky to score an Ai clarus combo. If you see one grab it. The combo by itself is great for low volume stuff but when i need a bit more oomph I stack it on a markbass ny604. The mb fills the room and the Ai points up at me.

Actually I think there was one on here that might be still available.

Re: '79 MM Sabre

Thats too freaky. That bass has been playing Jezzas tunes since the 90s... and still is. :rolf:

If you hear any of his old Idiot Son recordings - they were done with the Sabre.

Re: '79 MM Sabre

I used to play with a guy who collected instruments - had original P's, J's a 70's Ray, Strats, Hammond etc.. Every time I opened the case I'd hear a murmer... "You bastard".

Re: '79 MM Sabre

That looks like my old girl. I owned that from the mid 90s. The funk is strong in that one.
