Re: Mastering the fretboard - not!

Ball breakers.... 1. Single strings. Play entire basslines on only one string. eg. Only use the A string, jumping up the octave for the notes lower than open A. 2. Omit strings. Play songs you know but completely omit one of your strings. eg. the A string. Play the bass line at pitch, going up the n...

Re: Mastering the fretboard - not!

It's an unconscious skill while playing. You're not supposed to regurgitate the note names for everything you play. - Practise sight reading every day, that helped me more than anything. - play everything you already know up (or down) an octave. My favourite drill..... 1. play one specific note alon...

Re: Single coil hum in sandberg tm?

I have a bass wired with a series/parallel switch. Neither setting produces any hum. Gives you the SC-like tone without the heartache.

Great little units. Your ears won't fatigue as quickly with extended sessions.

Re: Whats the deal with Eden Bass amps?

One of the best backline rigs I've played was Eden. 1x18", 4x10" & 4x1". Rich and detailed, pleasantly coloured.

Tone: brighter than Mesa Walkabout or little more girth than Labsystems Valve heads.

Re: Maybe a dumb D.I question

Input gain - yes. Use the Master volume instead. Check if you can switch DI to PRE-EQ. Keep the Empress on your pedalboard for PA adjustments, and use the Amp's EQ for personal adjustments. If DI is Post-EQ, see if the FX Loop is POST-DI. Try the Empress in the effects loop. Use the Amp's EQ for PA,...

Re: Short scale bass ideas?

It's all relative. - Going from 41" Double Bass to 34" feels like playing a toy. - going from 18" Kala bass to 30" bass feels huge. You can't go by other people's opinions.... you've gotta try it for yourself. PS. That JMJ you referred to earlier may end up being a batch issue. I'm holding my judgem...

Re: Short scale bass ideas?

Lightweight shorties are an acquired taste. Totally fine once you get used to them. eg. Danelectro & Hofner.

Does weight matter?

What's your budget?

Re: Talk to me about Double Bass

The setup HAS to be done with the strings you're intending to use. Looser strings need a higher action, so if you're going to try cheap nylons then now's the time.
