Re: JAZZMASTER BASS IV BUILD

Great work, Drew. Yes, handcutting is not a lot of fun (Kermit taught me that, times 25 - zero fret :) ), much easier with the jig. Neck in 4 hours? That is something I can only dream of, pretty sure it takes me about double that ... . Should be in next Friday, looking forward to seeing this in per...

Re: JAZZMASTER BASS IV BUILD

Well today was a good day... Pickguard modded for the project - I had to rout the neck pickup space in the guard and also rout the neck pocket. It came from Mark at Spitfire with no pickup space routed as I was still unsure exactly where it was going to go. And the neck pocket of course was cut by M...

Love the chords he busts out at 4:18 - what a fabulous sound...active as well, which surprised me.

Re: JAZZMASTER BASS IV BUILD

OK - so the body is painted in David's special can of Ferrari Red after a nice white undercoat. Holy Shirt, it's a great red. Like seriously...it's a REALLY great red. I got the neck out of the clamps on Wednesday and finished the headstock and got the fretboard edges flush with the maple. All going...

I badly want to put a black guard on that Tele! Great articles - the pickup resto is cool.

Re: JAZZMASTER BASS IV BUILD

This is looking fantastic! I've been thinking a JM baritone next... The Americans like making templates to suit router bits to depth with a top-mounted follow bearing...PITA...so the cavities have ended up being 2mm in with the MSGM router setups. So this is in contrast with the plunge router with ...

JAZZMASTER BASS IV BUILD

Jazzmasters are in my opinion very sexy and growse...and I stupidly sold my 67 Jazzmaster to a friend about a year ago. It'll take me another 10 years to save for another 60's JM, so meanwhile I can only console myself with my final project for 2017 - a Jazzmaster Bass. A few years ago I got into ma...

Re: had to happen... Let's See Your Basses!

Just realized after ditching two Fenders I'm down to one only...the rest I built.

Well, the 66/71 J Bass will land in a week or two...and the Fiesta Red Jazzmaster Bass build will be roadworthy end of next week.

Re: 1960's Jazz Bass pickup to pickup to bridge spacing

Thank you both, gentlemen. I am also unsure as to how faithful the MIM 60's J Basses are to vintage specs. I can see myself lugging a ruler down to the Bass Centre on Saturday morning LOL...
(Should never have sold my 69 J Bass...)

1960's Jazz Bass pickup to pickup to bridge spacing

OK so I'm sick to frickin death of getting nowhere with Boogle... Current build is a "Jazzmaster Bass" using a pair of late 60's Jazz Bass pickups, and I need the measurements from between the bridge and neck pickup (drawing an imaginary line down the middle of all eight magnets on each pickup and m...

Take the neck off, strip all the gear off of the body then go buy 3 scoops of dry ice and a Lite n Easy styrene box. Insert dry ice, body, then more dry ice and put lid on box. Then listen for the sound of instant relicking LOL... By the way, that is a magnificent score. A stunning classic Fender c...
