Re: Travelling to Solomons with a bass

Cheers mate, they are junky cheap basses I’m taking them over there to give to a local when I leave. I’m planning on removing necks putting them in soft cases and having them in my luggage with my clothes. Scratches and dints won’t mattter , they will already have them.

Re: Travelling to Solomons with a bass

Sorry guys, had a mild panic attack in the shower. I did a google search... ...The Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna (CITES) agreement that went into effect Jan. 2, 2017, exempts those traveling with instruments for personal use with up to 22 pounds of regula...

Travelling to Solomons with a bass

Hi Guys,
I’m about to go on a short term mission trip and am planning to take a bass in my luggage. Will I make it through customs? Do I neeed to be careful about what fretboard wood I take?
Cheers,
Nigel.

Re: Rosewood bans..

I just had some trouble with importing via shipito. I sent a wood pickup cover to nordstrand for them o fit a custom pickup to. They did the job and posted it to my shipito address. It got held up by shipito as the courier I selected uses Aust Post at this end and they said Aust Post wont take any w...

WTB strings

Hi guys looking to buy fairly standard 4 string set of round wounds. Not locked into a particular brand or material - SS or nickel. Figured someone might have a cheaper set hanging around they don't want before I buy something on the bay? DR, Elixer, Ernie Ball, D'Adarrio - anything reasonably known...

Re: Sterling Ray 34 help needed

So the tech replaced the existing input jack with a new switchcraft jack. Upon inspecting the old jack, it was a very old jack which had the guitar lead connect points filed back. The suspicion is that the original jack was damaged and the guy replaced it with something old hanging around. It must n...

Re: Sterling Ray 34 help needed

Took the tech less than 5 minutes. The red wire was badly resoldered and creating grounding hum noise. There was also another wire only partially connected to the input jack which I didn't notice. He fixed both and only cost me $10. The input jack is also a bit iffy. I had to put some sideways press...

Re: Sterling Ray 34 help needed

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Nice to know you believe in me, but I suspect you didn't see the job I did in creating that 26 scale 5 string. I think I've tried to solder about 12 times in my life, over the years, none - not one - of those times did I meet with any success. If we ever end up in ...

Re: Sterling Ray 34 help needed

OK. I think problem kinda resolved now. I do recall a bit of hum when fingers not touching strings, plugging it into the amp got me the same issue but twiddling the solder point got rid of the hum. Putting it all back in the preamp rout yielded a few minutes of the big big tone I'd expect from a sti...

Re: Sterling Ray 34 help needed

I suspect this might be it? There was some black shrink wrap and I slid it along a bit. Could this be it? Looks like previous owner fiddled with it, cut the wire and did a bad job of re-soldering the break. Hope the link works. I do have a solder here I wonder if I should try myself... https://imgur...

Sterling Ray 34 help needed

Hi guys, So I bought a second hand Sterling Ray 34 (Indonesia). I needed something semi-decent each Friday morning at my school for 2 songs and didn't want to be lugging my Mailloux in just for that, figured I'd buy something fairly cheap and just leave it there. The Ray34 was a great price and I've...
